i splurged today and just bought an optima yellow top battery...i've been having a little trouble with my old battery so i said forget it.. i'll need a good battery next year when i put in my system...

looks good in the engine...nice bright yellow

I plan on using it as my primary battery this winter...will this be ok??? i noticed it puts out 550 CCA...my old battery was 850 CCA.
In the winter i'm only going to have a 100 watt amp hooked up...
Guys at the store said I would be ok for the winter with the CCA's it puts out.
what do you guys think??

later,
ryan

I have a yellow top also, but I live in California and don't see any cold weather. It works for me.

I am curioius, why did you opt for the Yellow Top battery? This is for you too, Ray?

Thanks....

Al,
First of all, the yellow top is bigger and it fits with no problem, Second I heard from some of the jeepers I know that the red top doesn't last as long. They all recommended getting the yellow top instead. I have had not problems starting. I also have a winch.

Ray, did the yellow top fix in the oem battery tray and use stock hold-doens? If not, what did you do to mount it?

Thanks....

i have one too... i went to pepboys and bought a red hold down bracket... it works fine.....

i got it b/c i am notorius for leaving on my lights and i use a lot of accesories w/o the engine started. when i go camping or spend the night in the truck i listen to the radio and it stays on for over 8 hours and starts fine the next day.... and a water/acid battery has a higher cca b/c it doesnt have the guts to start so it needs more power... the gel types use less power more efficiently and thus are rated differently but will have the same outcome effect

i paid 166 at a local shop for my yellow top.
i just wanted the security of knowing they are backing up the 2 year warranty.

i drained my battery 2 weeks ago because i didnt have the auto shut off switch for the lights. i had to get a jumpstart. i am guessin its not good for the battery? my truck also has trouble starting sometimes and i have to hold down the key longer. could this be a bad battery? just curious. its OEM
