2003 Explorer Sport Trac
Like the title says. Two nights ago coming home I had a homie tailgating me and they ended up rear ending my lifted 2003 Sport Trac XLT. they veered to the right and missed my three ball receiver, hit the tow hitch lift shackle and rear bumper. His p.o.s. Eclipse dove under my truck and caused quite a bit of damage to the suspension.

I called his insurance company (Geico) and made a claim yesterday. I'm gonna call them again tomorrow and get them to fix my truck asap since it's my daily driver and I'm susposed to start a new job on this week.

I need to get a new rear bumper reinforcement, leafsprings, tow hitch and bumper cover.

I drive my Trac daily, tow with it all the time and plan on doing a SAS, SOA in the next year or two. I need to find a set of new leafsprings for it. I could probably get a set of used springs from a junkyard but I've searched and no one has a ST in their yard, atleast not close to me (100 miles).

I know alot of you guys run aftermarket springs for your lifted trucks and was curious if ya'll could post some links to companies that make or sell them. I don't want SuperLift springs (too soft for towing).

Thanks in advanced... :salute:

Sorry to hear this Jerry. Glad you are ok. Hopefully they take care of the claim. Good luck finding the parts. How did the tire carrier handle this?

That really stinks Jerry. EF had a very recent thread regarding tailgating idiots.
You're probably familiar with this suspension shop in Skippack, Pennsylvania. GL

Whoa! 300 miles away, didn't know PA was that big! LOL

Try JC Whitney

That's where i got mine from...

Actually the 3/8" Angle Iron I welded to the body lift bumper bracket saved the bumper and bed. If it wasn't there the bumper would've been crushed up into the bed.

I'm gonna call Geico tomorrow morning first thing to get my truck fixed ASAP. I'm gonna be starting a new job this week and need my truck. Everyone was ok, we're gonna go to the chiropractor tomorrow just to make sure. I'm just glad Matthew (my 5 month old son) was ok, he actually slept through the impact.

I'll have to check out J.C Whitney closer. I don't really wanna get oem leafs, I can use Ranger or Explorer leafs because they don't have as much arch or strength as the ST leafs do.

Just checked J.C. Whitney and they only had Superlift leafs and a couple different helper setups but no other full leafspring sets.

I'm getting the run around from both insurance company's. Geico can't do anything until they talk to their customer who hit me and State Farm wants the deductable to the garage where it's getting fixed. I hate insurance company's, you pay all this money, go accident free for over 12 years (last accident was the other driver's fault too), have full coverage and they still won't help you out. WTF !!!!

Anyone else have State Farm and deal with this? I just want my truck fixed, I'm supposed to start a new job tomorrow and I'm out a truck.

I can fix the damn thing myself but need a check from one of the insurance company's to do it.

I don't know how bad your leafs are but here goes nothin.

The first link is for Commercial Spring in New Alexandria. If you believe yours can be fixed TEMPORARILY until the insurance companies stop giving you the shaft then try this place.
My father took springs off a '92 blazer to get them re-arched w/ 2" lift and he said they gave them 2 inches of lift perfectly. He was extremely pleased with their service and the leafs are still holding up well and he's gone back there a couple times too.

I was doing research on leaf springs today at work (don't tell the boss!!) and stumbled across this site. They're out of Whitheall, PA and apparently deal alot with leaf springs. Again, I don't know if they'll be able to help you but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call. (They close at 5:30pm!!)

Sorry I couldn't post this earlier to help. I am unable to log into the forum at work, so therefore unable to post anything. Good luck!

You can get deavers G50E. I have them and they are amazing. I'm running around and wheeling with my stock shocks, I can only imagine how much smoother my ride will be with aftermarket shocks.

Any update Midnight?

Got a call yesterday from my ins. company to finish my claim. Gonna call them tomorrow and see when the adjuster is coming out to check it out.

I pulled the truck up on ramps to look closer. The W.P. shackles need replaced since the rightside one is bent. It just keeps getting better, not.

Had the State Farm adjuster come out and check out my truck this morning. $2,800 in damage just from visual, might be more once we get it up on the rack and tear into it.

Geico's adjuster is coming to check out te truck tomorrow, we'll see how much he wants to try to lowball the damage.

Any pics of this? Do they suspect frame damage? 2800 for a rear bumper, hitch, leafs and shackles seems like it would leave you a good bit of spare cash if you did the work yourself. Good luck with the claims.

I'll get good pictures when I start tearing everything apart for the rebuild. The rear plastic bumper cover and the plastic reinforcment is $700 alone so I'm a thinking it's time to build my Steel rear bumper if I have the time or possibly have James from RLC Welding build one for me.

I really wanna build one myself since I have a welder now and I already designed and built my swingout tire carrier. We'll see. I'm starting a neew job this next week but will be working a 5a.m.-2p.m. shift so I'll have alot of my day left to get stuff done.

I'm still trying to find out if RT makes a setup for your Ex. waiting to hear back from Todd Z..

700 bucks, damn. I'd say its time for a custom one. What about calling up some u-pull its? There is strauss automotive down in dawson, right near me, and they have a big location in west alexander as well. They have a full service yard that may have a trac. I know their u pull it yards do not have a trac. Thanks for looking into that setup for me.

I'm going with new leaf packs, I can get them for $371 (pair). The rear bumper will probably be custom (not sure if I'll build it or have James from RLC build one for me). So I don't need anything from a salvage yard ST which are next to impossible to find, atleast around me. I heard a place by Bentleyville has two, not sure how to spell the name but it's called Rentenhauer's. Maybe you've heard of it? I do know from research that the ST springs have a higher arch and spring rate which if put on your Sport would probably give it a good lift by themselves.

Rittenour i think is the place. I already have 4 door leafpacks with a AAL, but that is handy to know in case I need more rear lift. Would you try to incorporate your tire carrier into the new bumper (if it is a custom built bumper) or build another one for it?

Not totally sure if I'm building it or having it built yet. Either way I'll have the tire carrier built into it. How does a add a leaf work for a SUA?, never seen this setup before, only SOA's.

Geico's adjuster said $2,900 in damage but doesn't include the tire carrier or anything once the truck gets on the rack and find more. We'll see. This would have to happen when I'm starting a new job tomorrow.

Hopefully you can get it sorted out. As for the AAL, it just works the same whether the leaf is under or over the axle. I hate to ask, but do you have pictures?
