I have had my 2002 Ford Sport Trac for quite some time now and I recently lost the keys...I don't have a spare...I wanted to know if anyone can help me out...I called the dealer and they said that it would cost about $500 to get a new key...they said a locksmith could not help me...does anyone have any suggestions for me?!?!!? I am lost without my ST.

Thanks!

Your dealer is blowing smoke...You can buy a new key (I'd get two) online (ebay has 'em relatively cheaply) and have the dealer program them. I bought a key on line for about $25 and the dealer charged me about $80 to program. I'm not sure if there are locksmiths out there that might have the programming capabilities...

When you buy the ebay key.. get 3. Once you have the 1st 2 programmed you can program the 3rd one yourself.. Always have 3 sets.. that way if you lose a set you can buy one and program it yourself. Once you only have one set of keys you have to pay to get the new one programmed.

programming

so how would I Program the key? The truck is in my driveway...would I have to get it to the dealer to program the key I get from ebay???!?!? HELP!!!

Call some of the local mobile locksmiths.. Many carry the programmers and can program the keys in your driveway..

Step 1 will be getting the keys
Step 2 will be getting them cut so you can get in the car etc..
Step 3 will be getting them programmed.. Locksmiths are usually much cheaper than the dealer.

Find another dealer. The one you called is a crook! I just bought a wrecked ST and it had no keys. The dealer can cut keys by looking up the code from the VIN. I got 2 keys cut for $41.00. They will program the truck for $41.50 if I take it to them, which I haven't done yet. The dealer should do it for under $100 unless they're including a tow bill.
