ouch... try to squeeze out your insurance to take care of it.. if i were you, i'd beat your friend up just to release the anger.. :hammer: nah! just kidding..

accidents happen.. it's just frustrating and time consuming when the people who are responsible for it don't want to pay for the damage..

There was a special clause......since the insurance on explorer that got hit was liability and the other was full coverage....it covered it. But since it wasn't on a paved ROADWAY. Yes, in my insurance book it says this in fine ink. His is getting fixed. I will be putting a junkyard fender, Removing and attempting to fix the door, if not I will replace it. Depending on cost I may just have the whole truck painted....who knows.....I'll post pics as I repair it.

Also note the tire shine from my explorer on his rear tire, as well as the CRACK in the quarter panel.

Best route would be junkyard fender and door. Check you local craigslist for guys doing painting on the side. You might get it all fixed for under $500.

both of urs are easy fixes.. im sorry to hear that tho im sure its something you will laugh about in the future as it is kinda a stupid accident...lol ayway urs is a j yard fender and door easy.. his.. even easire j yard tail light cheapo bulb and who cares about the bumoer.. if he so desires he can jyard that too both of your trucks are comon colors so you could prolly find parts of the same color.... at least the jyards by me would have those colors.. also u could check ebay for parts thats cheap enoguh too, but jyards are def cheaper... good luck and keep us informed

BTW, who is your insurance company?

Well now you now that all accidents in the future will happen on paved roads. So if traveling on a county maintained dirt road they wouldn't pay out? I'd find a new company.

MetLife is the insurance company. They finally said they'd cover his....since he has full coverage. But since mine had liability my insurance won't pay due to the roadway clause, and his won't pay because it was parked on a driveway, not in a road.....He said he'd help me out paying for it.....I think I'm going to go fishing and put my catch in a cooler in his backseat....lol

I think I'm also going to fix the doglegs at this time too......maybe it'll be getting an all over paint job

His insurance should have to pay to fix yours too, your insurance shouldn't matter it should all be on his since he's the one that hit you. I don't understand how his insurance company can pay to fix his, and then say they won't fix yours because the accident happened in the driveway, if that was truly the case then why are they fixing his?

I hate to say it man, but if he's your "friend" he need to pay to have it fixed, regardless if insurance covers it or not. I'd be raising hell if it were me.

Finally Getting Fixed

It's been a long time since I've updated everyone on my situation. You guys may know Ohio was hit by a hurricane this past summer. Well this accident happened maybe a few weeks prior. During that hurricane the other explorer that was still to be repaired was coming down a hill and was picked up from behind courtesy of the wind. It then plowed into the back of a jeep. It was hit so hard the front two frame to body bolts were broken off on the drivers side. It was then completely totaled.

I have tracked down a fender and door at another buddies junkyard. He wants $250 for passenger fender and door together. The paint code matches (BA), but the painter at work says there are four different color variations of BA. We'll see if they need to be repainted once I get them. They look close. The fender does have some dings in it. All I have it a picture from my camera phone but here it is.

I will be doing the bodywork, and it will be my first time. I feel confident I've learned enough through my apprenticeship to perform a quality repair, although I work in the service department, not the body shop....lol....I do spend some time back there every once in a while. I've also worked out a deal with the painter at work who said he'd paint the fender after the bodywork's completed for thirty bucks (Beer money). The pinstripe does not match either, so I will be stripping the truck of all it's pinstripe. One of my good customers owns a pinstripe shop and he said he'd re-stripe it with a black barbed wire pinstripe for only $20. All in all, this estimated $2,500 repair will only cost me around $375. I'll post pictures as I complete this new project.

I still don't understand the whole insurance thing. My ex girlfriend backed her car into my camaro and smashed the passenger side headlight and busted the bumper and it was in her driveway and her insurance picked up the bill. And then I got backed into in the same camaro in denny's parking lot and the guy's insurance flipped the bill.

Door Progress

Well, I've got a tan door that's undamaged off another explorer. It's a shade or two off as far as color. It has the same paint code, but upon comparision with color chips from the painter, it's on the opposite side of the spectrum. There's not damage to the door at all, and in fact I have it stripped down and about ready for paint. The wiring harness is out, the lock cylinder has also been removed. The only things left to remove are the door handle, and the window trim. Everything else is ready to be scuffed and painted. Here's the pictures of the door:

Finally Have A Fender

Last night I picked up my door for $200, complete, no damage. Today on my lunch break I ran to the local junkyard again and picked up a blue fender with minor damage for $50. The very front tip where it would meet the grille is boogered up on it, and there's a small dent just behind it. There's also a rust line from where the runningboards were on the truck. To actually run the fender and door through the dealership at which I work to paint the fender and door, from scuff to finish would cost $650 with my discount. So, I have a deal cut with a buddy to paint it for $50 plus paint. Here's the pictures of the fender upon arrival. I'll post another reply once I begin bodywork on the fender.

Progress Once Again

Ok, I have made some pretty good progress, but some things have changed. I am painting the panels on the vehicle, and I'm doing it myself, not the painter from work. I figured what the hell, they're different colors now, I can't do much worse....lol

So, here's some pictures:

This is a pic of the fender after a lot of bodywork had been done to it- this is actually the last coat of evercoat filler it got too!

Damaged Fender Removed....

I haven't taken a picture of the new fender on the vehicle, but it is on there and I will be spraying it within the next month to month and a half....I also had half of my cluster bulbs burn out within two days of each other....so I put those in too!
