Today I finally got my explorer back from the shop, it only took forever. I'm running 7 lbs of boost still, until I pass 500 miles, then I'll up it to 22 lbs or so. As of now it's running a bit rusty and sluggish. And when it switches to 1st-2nd 2nd-3rd it pauses acts like it throws it in nuetral and then shifts. I'm guessing it's either a lack of transmission fluid, or too much. So I'll take it down tomorrow for a flush, and get it right.

During the next few weekends, I'll be putting on a new radiator from radiator.com (good up to 450 hp, for like 120 bucks or something). Fabbing a new Air/Air intercooler (1/2 chopped f-350 intercooler) Will also be finishing up the dual exhuast and putting on the headers and making sure they line up just perfectly.

Can't forget the Greddy E-01 insane turbo timer with all types of goodies.

Then I'll take it to the dyno and have it dynoed, then send the results to brian (apten) and have him work his magic, and go from there. I've spent too much money on this and it better work!

Being a "boosted" fan myself and owning 11 Mustang SVO's in my time, I sure would like to see a picture from under the hood and such.
That sounds like a really nice set-up you have going there, would be curious to know what internals you used and what kind of work you had done to the heads other than SS valves, how did you route the exhaust seeins the room under the hood is somewhat limited and what trim is the compressor & turbine side wheels?

You are using a water cooled turbo?

Hell how about a nice story on your Ex, curiosity has got me here! ;)

22 lbs. of boost? I must have missed the thread... Was in the shop for nothing but internals work? very low CR, forged everything?

stock explorer = high compression? i thought one could only run up to 8 lbs safely?

I don't think his is stock...
internals of the engine or otherwise...

Don't forget to post pictures, Klowns.

I will be posting pix, gonna get a digi pretty quick here. I just found out today that it appears that my tranny is dead. I went and flushed it, blah blah. And it is acting retarded, doesn't shift for hours. So, I dunno how the AA kit is coming for the A4LD hopefully its done soon, so I don't have to rebuild this piece of garbage then trash it when the Advance adpters kit comes out.

I'm running around 8:1 Compression ratio. Had Probe make me some pistons 40 over stock, with a bigger dish for the compression i Can run 22lbs of boost, with up to a 200 shot of NOS safely with my Rod/Pistons combo. The Rods are chevy 6.0 inch rods. Of course switched out the cam/throttle body/MAF/injectors/Head work. Prolly some other stuff, can't think right now.

My main concern now is to find out about my tranny and how I can get it up and going. Sucks to be explorerless for 4 months then get it back in it's prime, just to have the tranny go out.

I'll post pix soon as I get the camera. I know I've been saying that forever, but I'll have one soon enough.

Nice to hear a progress report. Too bad about your tranny, though. If you're seriously planning on 22 PSI, I would give up on rebuilding the A4LD. A nicely built C4 would last forever. You'd lose OD, but since you're turbocharged now I assume the MPG isn't a huge issue. Keep boosting!

Hey Greg,

That's great to know that Martin finally got off his butt and sent you your stuff. Did it go together all good? I'm really glad to hear it worked for you though and wish you the best of luck at the dyno, maybe over 300 at the wheels??? Not with the A4lD, hahaha.

grrr I almost bought an SVO about 5 years ago. Almost. Darn it! It was white and gray, 85 or so model.

I think I'm going to go with a C6 from Doug's transmissions. Seems to be the cheapest route, without asking for problems. I'm going to lose OD but that'll be ok I guess.

It's gonna take 2-3 weeks for them to do it, lol. So I'll be without my explorer for that time again. This is not fun. Also, it seems to be idling at 1-1.7k rpms at all times, not sure what it is. And it's dying every now and then.

My MPG right now is about 5, Drove about 20 miles at 75mph, and watched it drop 1/4 tank. Still got some bugs to work out, but I'll get it over time, just takes lots of money and lots of time, and i'm running outta both. :(

Umm, I think you mean C4? The C6 has a one peice case and was never made to go behind a 4.0. The problems with trying to do this would be very similiar as to to trying to install an AOD which has already been proven not to work by Advanced Adapters. The C4 would be great and hold up to most anything an highly modified 4.0 can put out, I run one now behind my new 01' SOHC with a Paxton pushing 10psi of boost.

If you need any installation instructions on the C4 please refer to theC4 installation guide at 4.0 Performance . If you need anymore help you know how to reach me or just shoot me an email at the site.

Hey, SVO, mine's black, too! Are you on TurboFord?

Five MPG, Klowns? Yeah, you really do have some tuning issues to work out. Good luck!

From time to time I venture over there, Chris Roth used to be one of my customers when I managed Motion Dynamics.

I have a few other buddy's lounging around in there too, The Mc Cools, Jim and Jeff, plus David (HybridSVO), ETC. ETC.

If you like the black 85.5' then you would love the 70k mile 1985 white one I picked up in Presscott, Arizona then!

Sweet!:chug:

Actually Doug, I asked him the same thing, and he made it very clear that he would be putting a C6 behind there, instead of a C4.

Any thoughts on that?

With the body lift it will probably be easier to get the C6 in there, but you'll for sure need a custom tranny crossmember and driveshafts. Also, your tcase may not bolt up.

Not to mention that the bellhousing won't bolt up. Maybe he's got some kinda adapter that even Advanced Adapters or myself doesn't know about?? Maybe he doesn't know which engine you have? I'd love to see it done but I seriously doubt it. Let us know what you find out, should be interesting...
