I would like to get a decent GPS unit for off-roading. The problem is that none of them are geared to off-roading or the weekend warrior. All the reviews I have found on the web have been geared toward hikers or city driving. I don't need one for city driving, other than having major streets and highways to see where I am at. I am considering the Garmin GPS V, and using the TOPO CD, but i am afraid 19MB won't hold Southern California like I want it too. Also, the detail isn't that great. I also found a smoking deal on a Lowrance 1600 brand new for $399(since they are phazing them out for the new GlobalMap 3000MT). The Lowrance is nice because it is Baja proven and comes with mapping software, an antenna, and a mount. However, it does not work with WAAS (not so much of an issue with SA turned off) and I am concerned about the detal in it's mapping software. Any suggestions, or input?
