Alright, I want to get a Grant steering wheel for my 91. I don't have any cruise control buttons or anything on the steering wheel, just the horn button, but anyone put one in their explorer? How do I take the sterring wheel off? Do I take that cover off, and then do I have to get a steering wheel puller to get it off? Also, I haven't really taken a look at it, but I know you can get different horn buttons, is there any way I could put a Ford logo on there? Maybe the one that is alreay on the stock wheel, just kinda rip it off, and put it in there?? Or do those horn buttons have the logos printed on there??

It is easy to install a grant steering wheel and since you dont have cruise you dont have to worry about losing it... First remove the horn pad and then unplug the wires(dont forget to unplug the battery). Next losen the bolt to the wheel and use the puller on the bolt. wheel comes right off... The grant I installed Was smaller then the factory wheel. It was not on my car but on my friends EB and he lost his cruise.

The rest will come with insructions on how to put the grant on.

Thanks for the pic. I know the installation hub thing is pretty small, does it look stupid with the wheel really samll compared to the stock column? Thanks

It comes with a plate that covers the hole on the column so it does nto look dumb. The only thing is the grip diameter is smaller than the stock one.

Cool, I went to carparts.com and looked at some, and to get some pics, here's what I may want, tell me what you guys think? I also found some cool horn buttons that I could use. Here's the wheels

hahahaha yeah right, can you imagine what this would look like in an explorer?? I can...STUPID.

Here's the horn buttons I thought looked pretty cool, which one would you guys think look best?

Also, about the wheels, do you think it would look stupid with the wood grain thing even though I have nothing else with wood grain? Also, do you think someting of the same type, only in black would look better? Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I personally am not a big fan of wood grain, unless it's in a Jag or something like that. As far as the color goes, if you have a beige interior then the tan might look ok. If you have a gray interior then black might be better. But of course this is all my opinion, it;s up to you. I like to see different mod's to Explorers, it gives me ideas.

What color is that on Kris Guilbeaux's Navajo? It looks just about the same color as my 94 Explorer Sport (Cayman Green). And the interior door handles...on my Sport they are the same color as the rest of the interior (gray) and on this Navajo they are black. Also, that Navajo has different seats than a Ford, unless Kris has added them aftermarket.

Rhett,

The Explorer in the picture is my Friends EB 2dr. if you look in the garage in the back ground you can se my black navajo. The EB in the picture is caymen green. the door panels are all like that on 91-92 Explorers. The funny thing is you cant see but there is another Explorer in the other garage in front of the explorer with the grant.

rock883,
I like the second steering wheel, but I do agree about the wood grain. If that wheel is available in black that's what I would get. I like the colored logos better. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I like the seocnd also, and I don't like the wood grain, but I can't seem to find one that has a black center. I will try e-mailing them and asking if they have something that can go in there, or if they have one that has a black center piece. Thans for the comments, and suggestions.

I notice your (Kris) black Navajo in the garage has a long (lengthwise) 3rd brake light. I think all of the 91-94 Explorers had the short 3rd brake light. (not sure about that) Just another subtle styling difference I guess...

No that just another Guilbeaux touch to a my 92 Navajo. custom installed 95-97 Explorer third brake light.

But you know, I _did_ notice it...

Explorer/Navajo people notice little things like that...

I would go with a black one. Except you are driving your car with gloves, I think a light beige would look pretty soon dirty.

I know that mattadams has always wanted that stearing wheel that is the third one down. He is always telling me how cool that is and stuff when we pass those people by in the Explorer! :D

Right Matt? :)

oh yeah... chain link steering wheel (don't forget to add the skull or 8-ball knob to the steering wheel so you could steer all the way around with just one hand, keep your other hand danglin out the window), shag carpeting, maybe some frilly covers around the windows, dark tint, big fat gold wheels, tires with about 2" of rubber on each side of the wheel... don't forget gold-plating the Explorer emblem as well as the grill and all trim... get a trunk full of subs... oh yeah baby... maybe some skulls as tire valve and door lock covers, a skull shifter knob, some plush velvet seats, maybe one of those disco balls hanging from the rear mirror, talk about a pimp-daddy caddy... no fool would mess with me... they'd get wiggedy-wacked right upside the head, LOL.

Carefull Matt, somebody might missunderstand you and pick this up as a project! You never know.

You mean my suicide knob and shag carpet are back in style again? Time to break out the 8-track player! :D

LOL :D I knew you would go for that! :D

Hey Ryan and Matt,

Thanks for the ideas. While the truck is in the shop I'll keep telling Rick I need to run some errands, but I'll actually go and do up the interior REAL nice. How about some dingle balls hanging from the hood liner? I don't know though, should I go with red or pink interior? I think I'll get a velvet picture of Elvis to hang up between the rear seats and the back. Should it face us or the back of the truck? Oh, I know what I'm missing. I need a bobbing head dog for the dash. Anybody know where I can find one? I think our Baja Claws will look *****in' with gold rims! :D

I say go for it... really with a green colored explorer I think you'd be best off with a dark purple shag carpeting. The only problem I can see with that chain link steering wheel is what happens when it gets hot? I know whats its like touching the metal part of the seat belt when IT gets real hot inside... can't imagine touching THAT thing, and it'd be getting direct sunglight. By the way... if you got a bench seat up front, you could just have the velvet elvis "incorporated" into the back of the bench seat... something to consider ;).
