Hello explorer owners. Ive been on here for a while just never posted anything so I guess this is my formal introduction. I dont own an explorer but my Dad and my sisters hubby owns one and guess who does all the fixing...ME!. Anyway I'm an M1A1 Abrams Tank Mechanic in the Marine Corps so wrenching is sort of my thing. (mainly just working with my beat up hands) 1993 and 1997 explorers are in the driveway constantly for maintenance and when it comes to a scratch on the head I look to the forums for guidance. Right now Ive got the 97 in the driveway and it wont start. Replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the EDIS connections as well as the plug wires. I smell fuel and it cranks over fine it just wont start. Another thing is that all this happened after he washed the car and his alarm beeps are very faint when it beeps. (never like that before) also his alarm sounds like it was retarded somewhere due to the faster tempo when it trips(never sounded like that either) Battery was charged on 2 amp slow overnight and i swapped in another battery just to check things out. Lights work, aux position lets everything work too inside so i guess im kind of stumped. I was thinking the CPS but what about the alarm sounding faint? It could be a combination of things im thinking but mainly we just want to get the car started first, then roll into the alarm system. Is there a link for an Service Manual so I can point my multimeter at places other than the obvious? Thanks and god bless.

...welcome here....i would think about replacing both battery cables and it more than likely is a bad ground cable....both cost about 34 bucks at autozone....;)
...good luck and again, welcome here...:D

I agree with Tbars, It sounds like a bad ground or a short.

...well thats a first, lol...j/k...:D
