When i am turning my steering wheel to the left i get a werid grinding noise, and its almost as if the truck does not want to go, it will jerk and then go. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks

check the brake caliper mounting bolts, maybe that side is loose and binding up, it could also be the CV joint on that side

4wd engagement causing bind. Search for it

when i search for 4wd engagement causing bind i cant find anything, can you post the link?

It's pretty easy to rule the 4X4 system in or out for engaging. Just pull the power fuses to the control module and see if the issue continues. In my '02 they are fuses #17 and #18 in the junction box near the battery. Check your owner's guide for the numbers in your '04.

You can also unplug the connectors on the control module to disable it. Then see if the problem goes away or continues. You should unhook the battery ground clamp before disconnecting or connecting these module connectors.

Good luck.

Are you on 4hi or 4lo? That may be the cause. Use 2WD.

2002+ Explorers (4-door) do not have the 2WD option, only AWD.

I may also venture to guess it's a wheel bearing. Jack up the front of the truck and see if you can shimmy the wheels by grabbing a hold of them and pushing back and fourth. If they move, it's a bad wheel bearing.
