As the title states my '99 just started to make a noticeable grumble that can be heard and felt when waiting at a stop sign or stop light. If I throw my X into neutral the rpms pick up and the grumble almost completely goes away. The noise and vibration are there no matter what gear I am in, 1 2 D or R. I checked the tranny fluid and it is pink as usual and where it should be on the dip stick. Changed to the fluid and filter about 20k ago also. I looked up into the inspection port on the bottom of the bell housing and noticed that there was a slightly abrasive powered covering the bottom of the housing. Could this be a torque converter starting to fail? Driving down the road I can't notice any problems with the way that it drives other then it seems to have a little less power. What do you'll think?? Any ideas would be great to hear. Thanks :salute:

Mine was doing the same thing (plus a check engine light) when one of the rubber tubes from the egr to the sensors had somehow split open. Idk if that's your issue, probably not since no light, but hey, maybe your light is burnt out too. haha just tossin up an idea.

Can you give me some under the hood directions to help me check out what you suggested. Sorry I haven't had to spend much time under the hood of my X

Nevermind I found the egr and need to check the two small rubber hoses that tap off the metal EGR line and head behind the motor. One of the hoses looks a little chewed up, but not really bad. Maybe that will be the fix.

Yeah, one of mine had split 3/4 the way through at the bottom and it was running rough just like yours. I think it was literally $1 for some new tubing at autozone, then 15 minutes of my battery unplugged to reset the ecu, and it's been fine ever since. If this is your problem, I'm not sure why you don't have a CEL (check engine light) except that the bulb might be out. Other than this, I have no clue what it could be. But it won't hurt to replace some tubing since it's cheap. Good luck!

Took my X into to the shop and they found that the water pump was about three miles away from grinding it's way thru the front of the motor. The bearing was so shot that the water pump pulley was cutting the serpentine belt. So all in all $500 later I am back on the road and not going to the dealer to try to buy a new sport.
