H.I.D. Conversion Kit Installed!

Well, I finally purchased a true HID conversion kit off the Internet. I have installed it a couple of days ago. WOW! The light is unbeleveable! With the new crystal headlight housings on the 2001 Sports and Tracs the HIDs look like they belong. Not like the old fluted housings. Installation was easy. Just one power wire and one ground. I have a power distribution block that I installed a long time ago. After my last Explorer and 22 ring terminals on the side of the battery post you learn to install a distribution block before you add anything! I have noticed that I can not use the fogs since the truck thinks that I have the brights on. This is due to the plug that is used in the install. They have it set up with a wire from the high and low beam so that no matter if you try and flip on the high beams you won't loose the lows. Since there is not a high beam any more. The True HIDs are only low beam. However, If I clip that wire I will be able to get the fogs back functioning.

While the light is great and I haven't heard "That's a Ford!?!" so many times in my life. I can't agree that you don't need High beams with the HIDs. So I am looking into some Euro beam or Driving Beam Piaa's. I am thinking about replacing the factory fogs with some 520's and adding 980's in the bumper.

I think you could fit the 910 driving lights in your bumper. Those put out a very good amount of light. 910=105,000 candelpower while the 980 driving is 50,000 cp.
Or what the hell, put them both in....

how much did you pay for the HID.. do you think i could put them in my 1996? although the headlight isnt clear like yours, the HID would definately be better

I am sure you can put them in. They will fit any 9007. I know Troll has the HID conversion on his Explorer. I got mine from a friend that has a business on paper and gets things from Retail Wholesalers. He got me the conversion for under $300. They are the Phillips True HID kits that sell every where else for like $895 or more.

Sorry Guys, I would love to sell everyone a set. But, I bought the from a guy that I work with that sells some stuff and he got them for demo'ing. He just sold them to me for the $300 since he has a ricer and uses the H4's.

how hard is the conversion? what if i were to go to a salvage yard and get the HID system from a benz or bmw? would that work?

The install was really easy with the conversion kit. Just a Pos+, Neg-, and the plug in the harness.

As for grabbing out of a Benz in a junk yard. I don't think that you will find one that new in a junk yard. But if you did it probbly wouldn't work. I even tried "Test Driving" a Lincoln Mark VIII LSC, they have the HID but use a totaly type of set up all together. You would have to try and intergrate the entire Headlight Housing. Still cheeper to just get the conversion kit anyway.

Yes they are blue super whites. On my truck you can use 9005's or 9006's. The one that is the low beam will go right in. The High beam one (I just can't keep those two straight) will work with a little tab trimming. They look great at night.

Cool but id rather convert my PIAA 520 SMR fogs over to HID. Is there such a way todo that with a H3 bulb?

These kits seem easy to install but the H3 bulb is a lil different than 9000 series or H1.


Oh and where are the pics? Your non fluted headlamps prolly fare better than my 00.

im thinking of getting a HID kit for my mom's 2000 Hundai Tiburon, but i would just take that out of a beamer, cuz i think the light sizes are the same.

you need to get a window strip across the front windhshield. in tint. i have it done on mine with the windows tinted to. looks insane.

i have a question about da rims. what size and do you have a lowering kit? and is it 4x4? i know a guy with 20's but he didnt have it lowered...

Black Magic, where did you get the subwoofer for the rear side panel? I can't seem to find one from Crutchfield.

The Sub Box is a Qlogic Stealth box with a 10" Rockford Fosgate HE2. You can find the box at most car audio shops. There are other manufactures of a box like that but they have the speaker in them already. I like the Q logic since I can put a huge magnet speker like the HE2 in it.

hey black,, question.. did you lose your high beams? i heard the conversion HID are only single filaments. so you cant use your high beams? is this true? if so.. did you figure out a way to get a high beam equivalent?
