H.I.D. Conversion Kit Installed!

just mount a set of PIAA's on yer grille (4 sets work well). just rig them so they turn on when your high beam switch is on.

well for a wiring dummy like myself, i wouldnt know how to wire the high beams to the piaa's. how can i do that?

Yes you do loose your High beems and if your wiring set up for fogs is like mine you loose them as well. That is due to a jumper wire in the harness for the HID's that make them work weither you have your lows or highs on. I guess it is a safty feature, if you loaned your X to someone (Heaven Forbid) they try and kick on the highs and lights out. So I think that I am looking for Euro or Pencil beam Piaa 510's to go in the stock fog location.

The loss of high beam sucks. But the HID's are more than worth it.

real HID lights dont have a high beam because you dont need one

You are right real HID's DON'T have a high beam. But you really could use one. Actually vehicles that come from the factory with HID have two sets of bulbs one for high and one for low. There is no way for an HID to have dule arcs. I would love to convert my headlight to the dule bulb 2002 Explorer 4 door style. So I can have HID high and low!

I could be wrong, but I think the 7 series BMW's have dual bulb HID's. One for high and low beam.

I'm not sure why the kits cost so much. It is just a ballast and a glass bubble full of Xenon gas. Same principal as fluorescent lights. I guess they are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for one.

Some BMW's, like the 330, have a housing inside the lense that moves the entire light up to act as a high beam. But it does not use another light for it.

if you people interested, ebay - 9007 HID kits, i saw one for 350 the other day, but now a dutch auction for four hundred something. search for 9007 HID. just to let everyone know

the reason Fog lights only come on with your Low Beams is that, when it is foggy, you need to have your low beams on.

if you have your high's on, the light reflects off the water molecules in the air and reflect the light into your eyes.

low beams minimize that effect. fog-lights minimize it more because they shoot lower so the light reflects back into the grille, not up to the driver.

not a saftey feature, just a road use feature. you dont need fog's with high beams if your going to be driving in fog. thats the way it goes.
