I want to replace my stock fog lights on my 99Limited. Im considering the H3 Super Plasma by PIAA. Part # 15555 ( I do hope Im correct in saying that H3 is the stock replacement bulb.)

I think the stock lights are 35 Watts. (Someone please confirm this?) These new PIAA are 55W=110 with 5000k whiteness. Im concerned that these may be toooo bright to use while driving and it may truly piss other drivers off. Anyone else tried any of the Plasma series 55w=110w, and what did you think?

I had hyper 80w bulbs in place of oem 55w for a few months till one blew. I think ill try a lower wattage next time. However, they werent bothering other drivers either. It should be ok.

greengoose, problem is you PROBABLY don't have H3's, but check to make sure. I haven't dealt much with the 99-current fog lights because well, I don't own one and neither does any of my family members. I know on my mom's 96, it uses the 899 bulbs, which PIAA doesn't offer in the super plasma version.
I was hoping to test out some super plasma bulbs on the 520 SMR's I'm installing this weekend (or later possibly) but instead of testing out there new "Xtreme white" line. Ahh well. maybe later. Best bet though would be to pull the bulb you've got in there now. Shouldn't be too hard, Ford makes it fairly easy, its probably got a connector on the back. If it looks like the H3's on PIAA's site, its an H3. If it looks more like a headlight then a bulb itself, then it may be the 899. It should have a part number printed on it though.
Ford sucks, they put H3 as the model of light that all Explorers have used since 91, but I haven't found a single Explorer which uses that type of bulb! (though, like I say, the 99 and newers may be different)

I went and pulled out my bulb. Its very similiar to my 9007 bulb. The number on the side of it says GF30. One piece in an "L" shape with the connector facing the ground.

H-3's ,or are they H- 1's

I just had my stock round fog bulbs out today from my '99 sport.....I also was trying to upgrade them, and what I was told is that they are an H-1 bulb, also, when I pulled them out,I noticed that the bulb itself seperates from the plastic plug, and the replacement H-1 bulb would go into the plastic plug.Today I ordered a set of Hella H-1 {30+ 1}this should be an 85 watt bulb
I believe.I'll letyou know how this comes out ?

Yep the round ones for your 99 are H1 just like my 00. Im interested in if the H3 55W extreme white or the H3 85 superwhite is better for my 520 SMR. I guess ill wait for Matts review.
Oh and congrads to you greengoose!!

Greengoose :,
thats great news on your new addition !!!
I didn't read your second post, but I just just caught it.

yes, i also have a 96 eddie bauer explorer...and in the manual it says to get H3 foglights...i went to the store, just to look and make sure that those are what i should get before ordering them online. And sure enough, they are not H3's but size 899. Don't know why they printed H3 in the explorer manual....
