I've got a 1998 Ford Explorer. V6. 130K miles. Runs great. Having an issue when I take it out of 4WD. I'll put it in Neutral and then switch from 4WD Low to Auto. Then put in Drive then slowly accelerate. I can feel an initial shift and then there will be a REALLY hard shift/slam. It drives fine after that, but that hard shift is a little alarming. Wondering if I should be concerned. Getting ready to check the transfer case fluid level.
Occasionally, I have seen the O/D off light turn on and car won't go over 30mph after shifting out of 4WD Low. After a few times turning the car off and on, it will work fine. Not sure if that's related.
