Hard Shift to second

I have a 98 5.0 AWD. It has started shifting very hard into second gear and seems to slide soflty into overdrive prematurely even under acceleration onto a freeway. Hard shift occurs no matter how I'm accelerating. Any thoughts? Also which trans dies the AWD 5.0 use?

Hard shifting

I have to guess that the transmission is the 4R70W. It has been a while since I was in one but they do have an accumulator spring that can break and cause these symptoms. They can be accessed by dropping the pan and maybe the valve body to check and replace as the situation warrented. Hope this helps I would have to look at a manual to tell you which spring because I have forgotten. Hope this helps.
