HARD START AFTER TIMING CHAIN INSTALL

I recently installed 3 new timing chains and everything seems to be working great except for a hard start issue I am having. It takes two cranks to get it started. When my fuel tank is over 90% full I don't have the issue. I tried bleeding the fuel rail without any luck. Any ideas?

Maybe you have a weak fuel pump? I'd start by testing the fuel pressure at the rail.

I'll check and post my results. I feel like it may be something else besides the pump since it worked OK when I pulled the motor for the timing chain install.

Check compression. Strong sohcs will have have 185psi (give or take 10). I'd say anything under 165psi would be questionable. Anything over 100psi will run (but not good).

Try turning the key to the run position for 3 seconds, then off and repeat 3-4 times.
If it starts right up after that, then it’s a fuel pump issue.

Each time you turn the key to run, the pump primes, feeding fuel into the line if its drained back.
