I have a 94 xlt with 118,000 miles on it. i've been having problems for a couple months with my truck taking and an extended amount of time starting up when cranking the engine. Lately it has gotten worse, and it seems to do it more when there is anything over half a tank of gas in it. Today it had about a quarter tank of gas in it and started fine until tonight when i filled it up with gas, then the problem started again. i changed the spark plugs, wires, air filter, cleaned the maf sensor and the iac valve and nothing has helped. the engine seems to run fine and has decent power. it can go around 210 miles on a full tank of gas if i run it just under a quarter tank. not sure if that is normal for the year and mileage....some people have said it is and some have said it isnt, anyway any ideas about this problem would be greatly appreciated

What's the fuel pressure when it struggles to start? When it starts readily?

i havent checked the fuel pressure yet, i need to get access to a fuel pressure guage.
anyway i did try something today....i turned the key on, waited a few seconds, turned it off, then turned it back on waited a few seconds, turned it off, then started the truck and it fired right up. i'm begining to think either the fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump. two questions though....first, if it was my pressure regulator, wouldn't i have driveability problems? second, is it possible for a few pump to become weak and not maintain proper fuel pressure or do they just stop working? like i said the truck runs good otherwise and there is no check engine light but i am questioning my gas mileage..........thanks in advance

How about the fuel filter?

sorry, forgot to mention that.... i already replaced the fuel filter

well i fixed the problem, fuel pump was bad and was providing very little fuel pressure, i changed it and now the X runs good as new
