I have a "99 Mountaineer 5.0 V8. Recently I have started to experience an occasional hard starting situation. When I turn the key the engine turns right over up to 1100 rpms. But then sometimes it drops down to 300-400 rpms. If I stab the gas pedal, it will jump up to idle speed and stay there. Other times it drops back to 300-400 rpms and kind of shudders. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any solutions or suggestions? Thanks, Richard

Been having the same thing lately, I'll start it up, it will go up to 400rpm and then die, 2nd time starts it up.

I've tried cleaning the MAF and IAC, and it seemed to help somewhat. Hasn't happened for a while.

I had this problem, got so bad sometimes that it would not stay running...let it a while and strated right up...happened sporadically for about 6 months. Battery completely died, replaced it, hasn't happened since. There are very few times know where it seems to shudder a little bit, but never as bad as it was. Still don't know if it was the battery or not...gonna change plugs and wires this weekend...maybe that will make a difference.

Where is the IAC on the 5.0 V8?
