hard time starting

This morning when I started my car, I had to stop cranking and then start again for it to start. The first time it was cranking, the engine stopped rotating as thogh the battery was dead. The battery is only 3 weeks old. Any suggestions as to what it could be? Also about 5 months ago, I started the ex and the starter kept turning. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Could this have anything to do with my starting problem?

90% sure your starter solenoid is shot.......that would explain the quitting when starting, and the strter sticking on.....
