Where can I find a replacement harmonic balancer bolt for the 4.0L SOHC?

I went to the local NAPA, and they were unable to find an applicable one. I know the stock one is TTY, if i reused it, would it be too long, and let the balancer move forward and backwards on the crank?

You probably need to go to the dealership. It costs about seven bucks.

Ditto, Ford dealers have it for about $5.

I appreciate the quick replies. I couldn't find a part number online, so I was unsure if the dealer would have it or not.

Im hoping having the right, unstretched bolt, will help cure a vibration that i have.

Another member here had a vibration which reportedly was fixed by having the shop go back in. They claimed that the jackshaft bolt was loose(BS), as well as the crank bolt being loose. If the crank bolt is loose, then it could cause a vibration. Have you checked the bolt yet, it should require holding the flywheel to get it loose?

I haven't since the engine has been started. Beforehand, the old bolt was put in and torqued as best we could. I cant remember what I torqued it to though.

The vibration is from 2000 to ~2300 rpm. It'll stop above that, or below that. I may have to pull the pans down and check the timing of the balance shaft.

Im not sure what else can cause a vibration like that...

I'm not sure of the torque, but I think it was about 45lbs.ft. plus 90 degrees.

I believe thats what I did, even though it was not a new bolt. The Balancer is fully seated, and so is the bolt in the balancer. Ill have to get it back together after fixing a fuel leak and going from there. Most of the fuel going to the #1 injector was leaking out, but it didnt run or shake like a cylinder was misfiring.

That is a problem I wouldn't rule out. Get it firing evenly on all six, then see how it runs.

Well, the vibration is still there.

I wonder if replacing the bolt will change anything.

If it is tight now than no, the bolt doesn't cause that. Only if the bolt is loose can the balancer "vibrate."

Have you thought about replacing the balancer? Another option could be an out of round crank, but I know you don't want to go there.

Well - heres the deal with the balancer:

I changed engines, and used the balancer that was on my old engine, on the new one. The old engine did not have any vibration (I really wish i just changed the timing chains on it)

I have read of failures with the newer style balancer, that was on my replacement engine, which is why I chose to use the older style.

Engine is smooth other than the 2000-2400ish RPM vibration, far smoother than the original engine that was in the car.

Help-what direction does the bolt turn to loosen when faceing it.

figured it out.bolt came out easy with air wrench

Ive givin up for today on trying to pull the pully off.

Its a standard thread, so you would want to turn it counter clockwise. Its gonna be in there good though.
