Harsh downshift to first gear ( 4x4 V8 )

Hi folks,

my Eddie now has 18.5 k-mls on the clock, and since 1 k mls i have the prob that it shifts down to first gear very harsh when slowing down for a stopsign / -light.

Have read about similar probs several mo´s ago, but can´t find the thread, Does anybody know if there´s a TSB about the prob ?

If possible, copy of the tsb would be fine cause I´m in doubt if my loacal dealer knows about the US-TSB´s over here in GE, and will take the truck for service at the end of week.

would appreciate every help, cause i´m going to sell the car and will only do if everything is okay. (´don´t wanna sell but must do - looking for a job outside europe )

There is quite a few TSB's on this issue. Some people have had luck only needing the pcm/tcm updated. Others like myself have needed to have the mechatronic assembly replaced. My Trac is currently getting a second mechatronic assembly installed because the TCM on the first one died. Anyway the latest TSB for this problem is 07-13-08. It basically says to reprogram first and if it is still clunking to replace the part. I'll see if i can find my copy of the TSB.

Okay folks, it´s done. I´m right back from the service, they installed the "Driveability update" for the PCM - seem´s it works, never had this smooth and quick shifts before. Hope it helps permanently.

I had the update done and it seems to have helped. We'll see if that lasts, though...

curious - after updating the pcm, now the pcm-error-signal came up in the display. Have been at my dealer again to check for DTCs, but none to befound. Guess it´s caused by my Cobra-wheels w/o TMPS-sensors, running ´em now for 7 mo´s, last yr. swapped w/ org.wheels after 4 mo´s.

We´ll see what will happen when I swapped them again......

Just had the same thing done today. The PCM threw a code. They replaced the valve assembly N/C.
Transmission downshifts fine now.

Next time mine is in for service I'm going to ask this be done again. Last time I told my dealer about it they said it was fine, but as the miles have pilled on it has gotten worse. I know some dealers are better about doing TSB's than others.

I've spent sometime behind the wheel of our '07(now with 4100 miles on it). I'm not sure if I'm experiencing the same problem, or if this is a throttle by wire problem.

When slowing down(almost to a complete stop or stopping completely short a very short period of time) and then getting back on the gas there is a noticable jerk when power is first applied. To me, and knowing about these issues it seems as though it does not engage first gear soon enough.

BTW- I was finally able to firmly place the peddle to the floor for the first time and man does that thing move!

Not the same issue... the downshift is almost like someone bumps into you at at a stop (not like whiplash, but enough you notice it...) I think you are reporting the DBW lag that is place on many DBW vehicles....

I have this exact same issue and it is almost impossible to avoid. So frustrating as I think about it when I come up to almost every stop. Especially very annoying in stop and go traffic where you don't come to complete stop each time. I even tried to take out the lag with an XCal2 programming.....didn't help at all. Not sure whether I need to try to program the DBW link to be more or less sensative to get rid of it.....again....assuming this is in the DBW and not tranny.

Yea, I did quite a bit of driving in the city with it. There is no finessing with it. I thought my 2000 had a jittery thottle.

I plan to get this done since I've had the 'bump' on gentle slow down to a stop. Annoying and embarrassing with passengers.
