I have a normal 92 4X4 Explorer. I got it used in 1997. Everything ran great for the first year and a half or so and ever since i have had problems with the alignment. I take it to get fixed and it seems to last a week maybe longer and goes back to fading to the right. Ive taken it to several different places to get the problem fixed and even a place my dads friend owns. The last time i took it in to the dealership i got it and they said that according to them it was fine, but obviously not to anyone that drives it. It has started to fade even more here lately.

Basically I want to know if anyone else has had this problem and if so what did you finally do to get it fixed for good. I love my explorer and get great use from it but i can not afford to keep fixing this problem. so if you can, email me at rev_do_wrong@yahoo.com thanks

Hey man, first off welcome to the site - its great to have another Virginian on-board here. Well, to tackle your problem. I have been having the same kinda of things happening to me lately. The thing is, the suspension settles over the years from the weight of the vehicle. This throws the alignment off, particularly the camber (vertical). This will make the vehicle pull one direction or the other. This can be temporarily fixed by getting a professional alignment done, but unless new camber bushings are installed to compensate for the suspension sag, the alignment will continue to be off. I have just learned to deal with the problem. Hope that helps man.

This might be off the subject but, when i lifted my 86 bronco II, I tried my friends aligment shop (we were both fresh out of high school) and it cost $110 per aligment that didn't last more than two days. It turned out there are alignment cams that are ajustable and cams that are set in degrees. After three times (and more money than I had) I tried the oldest front end repair shop in town and thay put zero degree bushings in and align to new specs and put set bushings of a set degree. No movement, worked perfect (after $500 and two weeks of tire wear).

In reality camber does not cause the vehicle to pull. Caster and toe do. The loss of caster due to the settling of the springs may cause the vehicle to pull one direction or the other. Also worn radius arm bushings will have the same effect. If all the front end parts are good and everything is within spec on the alignment there is a possibility you may be experiencing brake pull due to a bad caliper or slide.
