Hey guys, this sometimes happen.. but today it happened all day!! I got out of my mountaineer and locked it.. I walked away and all of a sudden the alarm went off... No one was around and I kno for sure nothing touched it... THe alarm keeps on going off.. And then today i went to the movies to see Underworld (cool movie!) and one of my frenz who arrived late came in to the movies telling me that my alarm was going off agen... I dunno wut is up with that thing! can someone tell me how to fix it?? Also before writing this thread, my alarm went off in my garage and i had to go turn it off agen... Another thing is, to make it stop from going off, i have to leave my car unlocked and i don't wanna do that!!!

There are many factors which will setoff an alarm, so I need some more info...

1) Is it a factory or aftermarket alarm?
2) Do you have a motion or shock sensor? If yes, how sensitive is it?
3) Does the alarm work normally?
4) Any other electrical accessories plugged in or active (radar detors, cell phone cb ect.)?

#4 is important since many alarms are triggered by sensing voltage drain. So if you have anything use power the alarm will sense the drain and set off the sound and light show.

Similiar alarm thread

thanks derocha for replying.. its a factory alarm and there isnt a shock sensor.. I do have my radar detector plugged in..

okay,, here i am agen.. this is a stock alarm and I tried taking out my Radar detector... I thought that was the problem, but even still my alarms still goes off!!!!!??? what is wrong with my car!!!!!

I think if you hit the lock botton inside the door when you get out it won't acttvate the alarm and you'll have the doors locked. Doesn't exactly solve the problem, but stops the alarm from goin off all the time.

i tried that too.. it still goes off even if i just lock the doors withouth the key fob and from inside the door... this is really buggin me.. Imma take it into ford tomorow!

Sorry for not respodiing earliler, but I have been away. My expertise/experience lies mainly in aftermarket equipment. I haven't done any work on the ford Transponder alarm sys which came out in 2K. But like everything else I would try and check the wiring for anything loose.

There have been several other threads on various boards all reporting the same symptoms. Unfortunately I couldn't find any that actually gave a solution. So please post the solution if/when you find it.

Could it be one of the door switches??

I have a '93 that is doing the same thing!!! I am looking for a way to disable the alarm! Mine is a factory alarm and I have nothing wired in but fog lights and they are off when teh lights are off.

hey watsup guys.. yeh lately it stopped, so i didnt take it into ford.. ford wanted 85 bucks just to take a loook at it.. and more money to fix it.. freakin rip man.. if it does it agen, which i kno it will pretty soon i'll have one of my electrical buddies take a look.. Its weird.. it hasnt done it for a couple weeks now.. I'm guessing it may have to with something with my driving.. it seems to only happens after i take it out to the dunes or mobbin hard.. I dunno guys.. WE WILL FIND A SOLUTION!

I have checked some of the earlier threads. A few ideas came from them. One is the hood switch. I have pulled my bulb,so I wouldn't know if there were a short or not. Another is the door pins going bad.
Yet another is the threat of a dead battery (at east on its way to being dead). I will be checking these out.
I have to get a fix, I am not going to leave my ex unlocke out in public. At work the security guard has come looking for me 4 times now about this thing going off (to let me know, not to give me a hard time). Plus Hunting season is coming, and I can't have it going off when I am out in the woods hunting.

Yeh i really need to get it fixed because I was planning on adding a "DIESEL HORN" or "TRAIN HORN" to the mountaineer... hehe and i cant have that alarm going off and making 120db of honking sound.

Hey I know how you feel mine was acting up a while back and I could not figure it out so I disconnected my battery and reconnected it and everything was back to normal. Strange yes but it fixed the problem.

that happenned to me before also, about 6 mos. ago and hasn't done it since. :knock on wood: i actually had to discconnect the battery one night.

Happened to me about a year ago. Turns out it was the hood switch. It was broken and the previous owner had wedged something in it to keep it down that came out. It was like $5 for a new one.

A weak battery can cause the alarm to go off. This is because the alarm circuit works fine as long as it gets 9-14 volts. Any more or less and the circuit will malfunction and cause erradic behavior; much like your home computer getting various errors (some of which self correct, others require a reboot) So the people who disconnect the battery are in affect re-booting all the computers in the car.. Which from time to time is a good thing to do..

Ok from the various posters suggesting hood pins as a problem. If the pin have become rusted and stuck then it is time to have them replaced. I have Various Alarm pins so if your local drop on buy and i'll give you one.

So to get back at the listed trouble shooting..

1) look for any loose wires or rusted Alarm pins.
if you are unsure were they are just activate the alarm and open a door. If the alarm goes off then the pin is part of the alarm circuit. Do the same for the hood and rear hatch..The rear hatch doesn't have a pin, rather it is part of the latching mechanism itself (Driver's side).

2) Unplug the battery for 10-15 minutes to reset all the computers in the car.

3) If you still can't figure it out cut the alarm siren/horn and splice in a toggle switch or a set of crimped connections that can be unplugged easily. This way at least you can lock you car and have the light show without all the noise when it goes off in the middle of the night...

clarkent must have a loose wire some were...loose connections will go in and out whenever the X gets some good jolts...

Same thing was happening to me!! The alarm would go off for no apparent reason! and I couldn't turn it off with the key thing..I had to actually get in and start up the truck to make it stop.

My 1993 has same problem.. and it turns out to be shortened module by rear window leaking into the module.

And 1997 has same problem too.. turns out to be bad hood switch.

Both are replaced and it has been quiet now.

Maybe those help ya find the cause :) Of course I went to Ford Technican to do the job.
