Hello all,

I have an issue with my Explorer. I purchased this vehicle last year at another Brand dealership. The vehicle drives great, but I noticed lately that my mileage is not the same at each fil up. I only once had a 402 mile till empty. Now it ranges around 345 to 370 miles. I have filled it up at different times even at night still different miles till empty.

Also after having it serviced at that dealership, another issue creeped up. Now my outside temp drops from normal here in Florida to -26 degrees, and my A/C starts blowing lukewarm air. I can be sitting at the light and watch it go from 78 degrees down to -26 then back up before the light changes green. It is annoying because I am tired and hot and just want some cold air , but the temp just drops and the A/C is no longer usable. I have to open the window and wait for the temp to rise past 32 degrees for the aidr to get cold. Sometimes it is as soon as I start the vehicle the temp is in the negative.

Any help would be appreciated......Joel

Sounds like an issue with the ambient temp sensor or the wiring. When there is an open circuit (sensor disconnected) I've seen the temp show -40. If you get under the driver side of the bumper and look up around the radiator support you will see a small "plug" with two wires. This is the sensor.

Have someone look at the display and try wiggling the wires and see if there is a change. Also check to see if the connection is good.

Any impacts in this area?

I would be more concerned with the last part. Mileage can vary due to many things. For the temperature issue, it could be that the cabin temperature sensor is bad. It is located behind that little vent on the lower dash. Is the Ex still under factory warranty?

Cabin temperature sensor isn't shown to the driver, ambient temp is what the driver sees.

Powertrain control module uses the ambient temp sensor data to reference it to a pressure the a/c system should have. If the pressure is out of a normal range given the ambient temp, the A/C clutch won't engage, which explains whats going on. Ambient temp signal goes cold, PCM says somethings not right and kills the A/C compressor, thus lukewarm air.

OP,

IF you need some pics of the sensor I can get those for you tomorrow.

Hello,

Sorry for the late response. I have to wait to get home for work In order to respond. There has been no Impacts to the vehicle since I purchased it last June. I have a extended warranty but through the "other" dealership. So should I ask them to fix this issue.?

P.S. sheltonfilms could you send me some pics so I know what I am looking for.
