I have read of a lot of people finding the fix to their "terrible" wind noise from windshield area by installing a new rubber windshield seal.

I actually have my own "terrible" wind noise coming from both the passenger and drivers side upper corner windshield area. I need a new windshield since having a rock flung at me by a passing semi so I'm going to pick up a new rubber seal and have the window company install it when they replace the windshield.

I don't have a fix, but we noticed a similar sound from the passenger side while driving on the freeway. It's not really loud either, but it is louder than the road noise. Our 2011 Explorer was manufactured after the cutoff for the pillar rattle, so I'm ASSUMING that it isn't the cause.

I've got the same problem. PM on its way.

i had the A pillar rattle when i first got my truck, so i took it to the dealer to get it fixed....and now i have wind noise. i'm almost possitive these two issues are either the same, or are very closely tied together.

Thanks for the heads up, FlyNavy. I see you already sent a reply to my PM before the New Year. :D

Same problem

Have 2012 Explorer Limited, same problem with rattle close to A pillar between 65 and 75 mph. Just loud enough to be a constant irritant. I am a first time Ford owner, hoping there will be simple fix

Is it supposed to be dead silent on highways??. I had my Ex for a month now. I have wind noise (not rattle and not whistle). I always assumed it is normal to have this kind of noise (this is my first brand new car so i can't really compare to my old car which has this issue too). I even noticed the wind "whishh" in Ex i test drove. It is not that loud but it is there.

wind noise on passenger side

I posted below on another topic but it's same issue. They replaced the Black Plastic piece by the pillar. Took the dealer a long time to trouble shoot with Ford but it's fixed. Dealer at first wanted to re-seal the windshield and Ford said NO.

I went through same thing, sometimes the wind would cause it to vibrate making a noise that the radio couldn't even cover up and other times a whistle. The Dealer had my Explorer for a week and a half trying to trouble shoot with Ford and there is a new replacement part. It has improved mounting clips plus good old double sticky back tape on it. There is a huge demand and the back order crap is not my problem. I called Ford 1-800-392-3673 but they ended up transferring me to Fleet contact person since it was Company car in our Fleet. They did get on it right away but the dealership was having major issues getting parts and support from Ford and I told Ford that they are making the dealership look bad. This has been the best dealership I have ever dealt with and Ford is the problem. Replacement part came next day and I have not heard one bit of noise since 12-22-11.

I took my slight whistle in...the dealer replaced something and it turned into a buzz, they replaced something again and it's been silent for about 3 weeks and 1500 miles.

Thanks,

just figured out what is causing it if u look on the outside passenger a pilliar where the a pillar cover has a rubber seal that rests against the windshield the wind gets under it and makes it buzz, to prove it take a roll of electrical tape and tape the entire length of it to the glass drive the explorer and no more noise in fact if you listen real close you'll hear the drivers side doing it too but it's no where near as bad as the passenger side, then all you have to do is convince your local dealer, because mine couldn't find it I finally figured it out this past weekend for some reason the 2012's dont' have this problem, as my wife rents them when she goes out of town on business, all the 2011 rentals did it but not the last two 2012's either because their new or Ford heard it too and made the fix.

Hey, welcome aboard. Glad you figured that out. Thanks alot.

I had that whistle problem and took in for "the fix". They took out the windshield seal and replaced it with a new one!

Mine is not silent at all on the highway at 70-80 mph. Good amount of wind noise...but i figured it was normal. Not getting any buzzing or rattles...Mine was built in Feb of this year, so it shouldn't have the a-pillar issues.

So I have the same question...is it supposed to be almost silent going down the road?

I have same wind noise. Picked up my new 2012 yesterday and dealer said they couldnt do TSB fix (I have a Sept build date) because all parts backordered.

But thanks for tip on electrical tape. Will try that in meantime.

Noise is annoying. Around 65-70mph.

ColnagoRider,
If it's a whistle you're hearing then you have to have them pop the windshield and reseal itt. If its a buzzing noise than it's the A pillars.

Once they pop the windshield it's never the same.

Good luck.

Also having the wind noise form what appears either right front or rear passenger side, definitional not a rattle, just abnormal wind noise.

Will get this and other issues looked at during next oil change/service.
