Having Performance Issues I Cannot Figure Out - HELP

Fuel line fittings

Ford produced three styles of push to connect fuel line fittings so we need to identify which one you have. Most early models used the hairpin and duckbill clip style and are fairly easy to remove. Lines sizes 3/8 and 5/16 dia. use hair pin. The 1/4 used the duckbill. Some engines used the third type, (which I suspect that you have) the spring lock connection style. Are those retaining clips you mentioned horseshoe shaped, if so, you have the spring lock style. You need a tool to release the garter spring inside the push to connect fuel line fitting to fuel filter. The tool is available at most automotive stores by line size. Safety note, you should release the fuel line pressure before you remove the filter to avoid fuel being sprayed everywhere. I recommend you work on the fuel system when engine cold.

SAFETY NOTE: More than one person has been badly burned when removing a fuel filter and had fuel spray on a nearby shoplight. BE CAREFUL !

Ive done ford fuel lines before (I also had a thunderbird turbo coupe) And this one dont look like the garter spring kind it has a metal clip that is kind of like the duckbill but it goes around the line and then another bill goes around the filter neck it is all one piece. I have never seen this kind before. I think im going to take it to another shop (I just dont have time to do it at mine) and have them adjust the valves, change the fuel filter, flow check injectors, and change fuel pump and sender (fuel guage dont work).
