hi,
i have a 91 eddie bauer explorer...it currently has about 112k miles. a few weeks agoi started hearing what i thought was an exhaust leak. took it to the shop after it started getting worse. turns out to be a warped/cracked exhaust manifold. when running u can see exhaust coming out from around the manifold. yesterday it started smoking badly from under the hood...looked like exhaust smoke (blueish in color) but i could smell a hint of antifreeze smell as well. well today on the way home..it started to overheat...so i pulled of the side of the road and it looked like whiter smoke and alot of it. i got it home and poured some water in it...it was about a gallon low. i let it warm up to the temp for the themostat to open...when it opened i could see steam that appered to be coming out from close to the exuast manifold as well as around the thermostat housing and water pump. there doesnt seem to be any leaks while the truck is idleing at a stop (as if from a water pump). it was steamy and kind of dark so i couldnt really tell for sure where it was coming from. there isnt any water in my oil and when i start my explorer whit the radiator cap off it doesnt bubble like a blown head gasket does. any ideas what this could be? any info would be appreciated. thanks!
