Headliner wet after rain!!! Help!

Hey Guys!

My '96 has been holding up well so far, but i've noticed everytime I wash the car, or it rains, the interior headliner areas around the sunroof remain wet for a few days.

Also where the headliner meets the top of the driver's side window remain wet.

Any suggestions on what to look at? Any suggestions on what to replace? I'm having a hell of a time trying to avoid driving the Explorer when its raining.

Suggestions? Someone has to be able to help me? This is ruining my interior slowly, and causing a nasty smell to permeate the interior...

I have the same problem. My seal is shot, and so I tried to use a sealant on the inside. It's been usually around 10* here, so I haven't found out if it works good or not, but its ruining the ceiling, so I need to get it stopped. I found where the leak was on mine by putting in some thin sealant from walmart(I forget the name of it) and I took down the headliner to see where it showed up inside the car. That is where I concentrated most of my work to try and stop it.

I had that same problem with my 96 xlt.I found that the drains were pluged with dirt.I cleaned them with some compressed air that I used a plastic straw to blow some water down the small holes at the front edge of the sunroof .There are two drains that go from the roof down the frt door jamb and drain out the bottom. This is easier with two people so one can watch and see where and when the water comes out the bottom.
I have not had anl leaks since doing this a few months back. If you are having more water coming in when the frt of the Explorer is lower than that rear this is proably your problem.

yuppers. Occasionally, debris can clog the drains or the hoses. Open your sunroof, stand up on the seats with your head sticking out the sunroof opening, and you should see the two drains in the front corners of the opening. Clear out any debris and use a can of air to blow them clean. Sometimes you need to blow the crud backwards from below. IIRC, the lines run down the A-pillars to somewhere below the front corner of the doors, but it's been a while since I looked...

yes, there are tubes that drain water from the front corners of the sunroof opening, down the A pillars, into the area over the front door hinges on my 95 Limited. You might consider pulling off the A pillar trim to get to it and clean it out. Your problem will be solved. ALL sunroofs weep some water in the rain, but the raised lip around the opening is supposed to keep water from getting inside and direct it toward the drains. If the drains clog there is nowhere else for the water to go but into the headliner.
