Hey,

for those of you with headers . . .

which ones are the best bargain?

how hard where they to put on?

how did you put them on?

also thinking about a small NOS set-up. (dreaming probably, but considering it).

is there a small kit out there for the 4.0V6 (94' EB)?

is there a danger of blowing something up?

general opinions on the pro/con's of a small NOS set-up?

and finally gears. pushing 31" muds has killed low end power, even with the stock 3.73 gearing.

how much would 4.10 gears help? is it going to improve or kill the gas mileage? (not very good now)

and where is the cheapest place to get gears?

and if i'm doing gears, might as well do some type of limited-slip. what something good for the front? (supposed to have a rear lsd, but it doesn't seem to do anything, ever).

All this is for a 94' EB, 4.0V6, auto, SuperChip, KKM Intake, FlowMaster Cat-back, Safari Rack, and 31" Regul Muds.

thanks,
bigmac

nos is the best way to go you know just ask Troll.

4.10's should help your mileage. But you don't really want "cheap" gears. Randy's ring & pinion is nice and they also sell a rebuild kit for your imited slip.

Oh yeah, we have an east coast explorer club going on and i'm the coordinator for this area. You're wlecome to join.

Maybe yer X is dying... cause if yer having troubles with low end umph and with 31's an 3.73's.... Hell, I've got 35's and 3.73's still...

It's all a matter of opinion I guess. There are people on here with 4.10 gears, stock tires, and SOHC's that think their trucks are slow....

Headers:

I have the JBAs and I think they're the best out there, but they're a bit pricey. I had them professionally installed cause they're a royal pain in the butt to put on. However, unless you have lots of engine mods, headers won't help you with the 4.0 OHV.

As for gears, I had 3.27s stock. I went to 3.73s when I got my 31" tires. That gives me an effective 3.55 ratio and I like it, perfect mix of power and economy.

Hey,

btw: only fair to mention this isn't my X. it's belongs to my best friend who doesn't have access to a computer, so i get to do all his research. (i drive a Cherokee, and we go wheelin' together a lot).

well, with the intake, cat-back, superchip, and 31"s, and 3.73 gears (?), it's running 0-60 in like 11 seconds. i don't consider that fast at all.

can u think of any reasons his X might be dying? he can't even spin the tires when making a sharp turn. and gas mileage stinks too.

In that case, I beleive something may be wrong. If you can't spin the tires in a turn then something's amiss. Has his check engine light come on?

Hey,

talked to him again today. said he clocked his 0-60 time at 10.1 secs.

check engine light isn't on.

he just had his tranny rebuilt if that matters. (aamaco)

he's seriously considering the 4.1 gears, and probably a LSD in the front. (any suggestions for the LSD?) will that couse steering problems?

NOS may be a bit much so that's out for the time being. though it would be pretty cool! :)

he's also still considering a set of pacesetter headers to work with his intake, cat-back,a nd superchip.

10.1 Isn't too bad. That's about normal. 4.10 gears are great. That will probably yield the most noticeable improvement. I personally don't think NOS would be a good idea, but that's just me. Also, it's generally accepted that headers are unnecessary for our trucks unless they have some major mods.

Hey,

can anyone tell me what 1st gear is in the auto tranny?

also, would headers give a better exhaust sound?

thanks,
bigmac

if you do exhaust, Gears, headers, TB, MAF, Chip and Nos you can be in the 14's easly. Nos is the best bang for the buck.

just a thought

Has your friend ever changed his spark plugs or fuel filter?? I changed these on mine about 2 months ago, and I noticed a little difference in acceleration and mpg. It wasn't much but every little bit helps. And just to warn you the fuel filter is a royal pain to change (at least for me it was). Just my 2 cents, keep us posted.

Hey,

yea, he replace the spark plugs a few weeks ago.

hasn't changed the fuel filter though. where is it located? at 110K miles does it need replacing?

question: running 14's translates into what 0-60 time? (rough est?).

he can also get a TB Spacer made in a machine shop at his college for free. would this give him any gains?

how much of a gain would a larger TB and MAF give him?

thanks,
bigmac

bigmackloud, what you doing this for bugay. he too lazy or something? oh yeah this is brian with the white exploder

The fuel filter is located on the driver's side under the front door. It's mounted inside the frame rail. I changed mine with about 112 k on it. It's not that expensive to replace it's just kind of a pain to get the old one off. I figured it couldn't hurt to change it.

Hey,

waverider - yea, this is Jeremy. some how i got sucked into doing the leg work for bugay. he's lacks a computer though so i figured i'd help him out and try to get some accurate info for him. has he told you about getting stuck at the fairground last weekend at mid-night? 7 hours digging him out! lol. ask him about it!

later,
bigmac
