headers???

I have a 302 with gt-40 heads.. can I use normal 302 headers or do I need to use TMH?

for proper fitment you need to use the torque monster's. Mustang headers will bolt up to the heads, but even with shorty headers you will have major fitment issues. The only other option that seems like it may work is block huggers, but then there is an issue with starter/bellhousing clearence.

Mustang shorty headers' flanges come out facing the frame. There isn't really even an effective way to notch around it either. Long tube headers won't fit at all, and as noted, block huggers encounter significant interference.

Hmm, i wonder about truck shorties? i know the set on my 351w the collectors face down and back, rather than out towards the frame. I am nowhere near ready to start the swap so i have no way to know how they will work in the explorer though. And they seem to hug the block in about the same way as stock manifolds. there isnt a lot of gain with those though with tiny primaries and a smaller collector

see I want to get better header. and I cant get ahold of TMH, but these stock manifold gotta go.. they just have a piss poor design and are ugly as hell too

i put a ls1 in my buddies rx7 and we had the same issues. solved it by getting custom long tubes made by a local drag racer. if you can find some one. stuff the engine in the truck. trailer it to the guys shop and you will have the best fitting/performing header possible. it is a bit pricey but so worth the cash. let us know what you end up doing i love hearing about how people figure this stuff out. good luck.
