Headlight problem

Ok, so Ilve searched everywhere on this board for an answer to my question, but I cant find anything. So maybe I can get some answers here.

Problem: My high beams dont work. Low beams work fine. I tried replacing the multifunction switch, that didnt work. The bulbs are good. I tired jumping the harness on the high beam sockets and that didnt work either. All the fuses good and even the indicator bulb in the instrument panel was ok.

Soooo, anyone have any ideas? Im stuck. Thanks for any ideas.

I remember reading about some members having had that problem (and other lights related problems) and it was a failure of the bulb monitoring unit in the center console. Might want to try a search on that.

high beams don't go to the "lamp out module".... at least in my 96 ref. Anyways, do you have "autolamps"? do you have daylight running lights? the daylight running lights use your high beams.

Nope, it doesnt have any daytime lights. Does anyone have a diagram of what fuses in the interior fusebox controls what? Damn Ford and not labeling the fuse panel :thumbdwn:

I guess my question now is about your original post about "all fuses are good" and "tried jumping the harness on the high beams"??????? How do you know "what" fuses are good if you don't know which fuses are which????? Second, IF you were jumpering something, did you check to see if you had 12v on the jumpering circuit? The circuit is pretty simple .... 12v in goes thru the filament and then out to ground..... and its the same ground as the lows. Hence, my question on what you actually did.

Yeah we pulled the harness from the back of the multifunction switch. The low beam and high beam wires both have a constant 12v hot and a ground. When we jumped the low beam wires, the lights came on. But when the high beam wires were jumped, nothing happened. As for the fuses, we just shined a light into the fuses to see if they were still good, and they all were good. I just like to have fuse panel illustrations for future reference, if I need them.

ah.... you didn't jump the harness at the back of the light..... that means that you "tried" to go thru the fuse in the interior fuse panel. There are two for the lows and one for the highs. The problem is most likely a fuse... shining a light isn't really "checking" the fuse... you need a meter. I only have 96 drawings and I know that the fuses "move" from year to year... in 96, its 33. Anyways, the wiring is pretty straight forward..... from the switch , thru the fuse to the light. Having said that, I recently help my son troubleshoot "no highs" on his sunfire. Thought it was the switch... nope, not a fuse either.... a factory splice joint in the harness was totally "dissolved" near the front of the car (a 99). The ford schematic shows a "similar" condition (splice).... so if it ain't the fuse... you are going to have to trace the harness. The drawings show it as LG/BK. good luck and happy hunting.
