Headlights

Hi, I hope somebody can help me here with my 2001 Sport Trac. I have a problem with my new orignal headlights. The lights not bring really much light to the street and that is a problem here because the streets a really terrible. I test it with the original halogen, with 100 Watt halogen, with LEDs and with bixenon. From all tests the bixenon was the best, but that is not enough. I think the problem is in the reflectors. For some cars you can buy projector headlights, now somebody that give it too for my Sport Trac? I need a good solution for that.

I have a another idear too, but I don't know that will works. What is when I change my headlights to the 2005 modell. Is it from the size and the form the same? 2006 I know is a big different.

Are you headlight lenses crystal clear, or yellow and/or cloudy?

Well, after market light's are often more about looks than function. Lighting is all about focusing the beam. Maybe the reflectors in those light's just don't focus/reflect the light very well.

@koda2000, do you have any suggestions for someone with regular headlights, so as to enable me to see better? I have an 03 Sport Trac with original headlights (bulbs have been changed obviously). It only has around 108000 miles and is garage kept so they are not oxidized bad. I have problems when the streets are wet and new blacktop at night.

There are many, many YouTube videos on headlight restoration techniques. Some are better than others, but IMO unless you clear coat them to protect them after sanding and polishing they won't stay clear for long. Personally I'd just buy replacement headlights. TYC's are a popular choice and are inexpensive (under $25 ea on RockAuto). As far as bulbs there are quite a few to chose from, but most feel that LED and HID replacement bulbs just blind oncoming traffic. Ungraded stock type bulbs (like Sylvania Silver Star's) are better than stock bulbs, but don't seem to last very long.

Those are my only suggestions.

I would suggest that if you are not getting good light on the street that maybe your headlamps are aimed too high. I made that mistake myself and had to adjust them back down a bit to get better light on the street. Also, I would suggest staying with halogen bulbs, but a really good brand of bulbs are made by Vosla. They are a little harder to find, but they are basically the top of the line bulb that Phillips makes. I bought mine form a web site candlepowerstore, but shipping may make them a bit expensive for you. Enjoy your Sport Trac! I have loved the 2 I have owned.

Actually I bought all new light fixtures, but the ones I have on truck look just as good. I had to replace the headlights do to plastic being britlle where the adjusters are. So if I apply clear coat to new ones then they shouldn't oxidize?
I bought mine off ebay with 10 year warranty, all 6 lights on front of truck (headlights, turning lights, fog lights) for $120ish.
