I'll get some specific hotel information posted this coming week. There is a nice motel that I have stayed at a few times right on the road to the park, on the north side of Manhattan. It can accommodate quite a few people. Getting a room should not be a problem.

Anyone that has the time and wants to have some fun is invited to try the trails at Tuttle Creek. Let Paul and I know what your plans are and we'll do whatever it takes to coordinate your arrival.

Hey Dogman, Paul, or anyone else in KC-
Where is a good 4X4 shop around KC, i think i am gonna invest in some Warn Manual hubs, and wanna get that done, so i can tear it up in Tuttle Creek. I just need one with good prices, i think i will instal them myself, probably when i go home....but who knows? Any info you can throw me would be great..i.e.-Phone #, location......

If you're going to install the manual hubs yourself, you're going to need a hub socket and a torque wrench, which you might not have. The installation is straightforward, and it comes with instructions. Be sure and purchase the adapter kit for the hubs, which just consists of three adapter rings for each side.

Any place that can repack wheel bearings should be able to do the install, if you elect not to do it yourself. Speaking of wheel bearings, while you're doing the hub install, it's a good time to repack your front wheel bearings.

The 4x4 shops in the KC area are Chux Trux in Independence, MO (816-373-8789) and Sweet Swamp 4x4 in Sugar Creek, MO (816-833-0347). Both are ususally pretty busy so it's sometimes hard to get in right away, but you should have plenty of time before Tuttle Creek.

Thinking back, I purchased my hubs mailorder then had them installed at NTB in Lenexa, KS. Chux should be able to give you a good price, but you might want to check the big mailorder places in the magazines so you can compare prices.

This is the best location, it is on the same road that leads to the ORV area. I stayed there twice last year when I was out hunting and it's a nice, clean place to stay. There should be no problem getting a room.

Hey guys, I'm hoping to be able to make the trek to Kansas to join you on this run. It won't be nearly as far as California which will be nice, my butt is still sore from that trip, heh heh. Is anyone camping or will it be too cold for that? No promises yet because I'm still saving up money for stuff, but we'llsee how it looks.

It'd be great if you could make it out to Kansas - - I've wanted to check out all the modifications you've made since I last saw your truck at the Colors Run.

As far as camping goes, I plan on camping - - unless the weather makes it prohibitive. There are some sheltered campsites, so unless its raining, snowing, or excessively windy, I plan on pitching the tent at the Reservoir.

It looks like we're at about 4-6 rigs for this event. Besides myself and Mike (aka DOGMAN), I'm counting Ryan (RJX), Todd, Matt, and maybe Gerald.

Anyone else ??

i am working on talking my dad into coming as well, he has a 99 with a K&N. Also, i have been talkin with some friends with Explorers, so i might add one or two more for us.
This might sound silly, but do you ski at all? i was up at Snow Creek the other day, and didn't realize how close it is to Leavenworth. If you ski, wanna have an Explorer ski session some time?

Haven't been to Weston for skiing yet, but enjoy the sport. The ski hill is just across the Missouri River from Fort Leavenworth. Hope your dad can make the trip to Tuttle Creek, that could put us up to about 8 participants!

Well, mostly.
Paul, I figure night-time temps at about 18 degrees. Have yourself a blast camping out. That next morning I'll be sure to bring you a cup of steaming Hazelnut Creme Supreme coffee leftovers after I emerge from my hot bath and ranch-cooked breakfast at the hotel.

Is anybody else in this group (with a little more thinner skin) interested in splitting a room with me at the Days Inn?

The hubs are coming along, as soon as I can get the conversion kit, which I will order tomorrow hopefully, I am gonna get the hubs from Mike, and get them on the beast. Currently Mike and I have an excellent game of phone tag goin on. So as soon as we can hook up, and scrounge up the parts, my Explorer will have Manual hubs. I estimate hopefully by the end of this week I should have them on the vehicle.
I like those pics that Mike sent Rick. Is Mike driving off of a cliff? It sure looks like it! I am mostly a stocker, with ONLY 30"s to boost my ground clearance, am I gonna be able to stick with you boys, or am I gonna tackle another trail? I am so hyped to go out and tear up the trails! I wanted to go snowbashing so bad this weekend, espescially on the way home form Snow Creek, since it is WAY out there, but since I had no 4WD, I figured it wise not to.

It would be great to see you at Tuttle Creek. Maybe you and Gerald could lead some of the Texas Explorers northward.

I live in the Kansas City area, and KC to Dallas for me is about 500 miles, give or take, and takes me about 7 hours. Tuttle Creek is located just north of Manhattan, KS, which is about halfway between Salina and Topeka. I figure Dallas to Manhattan is roughly about 425 miles, or about 6 hours.

The easiest way would be to take I-35 to Wichita, then take I-135 North to Salina, then go East on I-70 to Exit 313, then go North on HWY 177 to Manhattan. The Days Inn (sounds good to me too Gerald) is on the northeast side of town and the ORV area is just north of there on the west side of the lake by the small town of Randolph. Nothing is hard to find.

Paul and everyone,
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news and feel really bad. However, I made a little goof up on my dates and I am already booked for that weekend. I have to attend a photo shoot/training session with my Training Committee for our fire department on that day. I feel really bad for backing out. I also really, really wanted to go to this. It would be a blast. I haven't had a chance to wheel with my fellow explorer enthusiasts. I have been trying to wheel with a very built up jeep, and he can do just a little more than I can.
Anyway, I would like to extend my thanks for the invite. Hopefully, one of these days, I can meet up with everyone and we can do some wheeling!

Hopefully you and Gerald can convoy up from Texas. BSing on the CB is a great way to pass the time enroute.

Ryan -
Don't worry about running the trails with a near stocker - - Its a park and there are many diffent lines for each trail or area. The shot of Mike was "average". To one side of him was a much harder line, on the other side, a much easier line. You (like us) will be suprised by the capabilities of your Explorer, regardless of level of modification...

Gerald -
With the exception of the last week, it has been an extremely mild winter. If it is fairly mild, camping is still an option (besides, I was trying to sway Matt to come out Dead Link Removed ).

Mike -
When we fly the missing man formation for Todd, do we all have to be "airborne" ??

ok about the missing man formation, i believe we can do it in the air off of that "cliff" if we build upenough speed and make a run at it! Dead Link Removed that is cool about the trails, it'd be no fun if you guys are off somewhere havin fun on some nasty trails, and i am stuck driving on some piss-ant gravel road, so thats reassuring.
TOdd- If you can find some place in St. Lou to 4 wheel, i am in town alot, b/c that is where my paretns live, and would be more than happy to come tear stuf up with you!
