I want to order some new mirrors for the X but the power mirrors w/ puddle lights are out of stock on 1a auto. Will the heated power mirrors w/ puddle lights work with my truck? I heard you just hook them up and they activate when you turn on the rear defroster. Is this true?

Here are the connectors for the mirrors I currently have, the power mirrors with puddle lights:

And here are the heated power mirrors with puddle lights:

It looks to me that the connectors are similar but the heated mirrors have a few more prongs. Has anyone done this before? Thanks in advance for any help.

I've remember reading a thread about the connection already being there, not sure how to activate it tho.

I think it's just plug and play. I'm just not sure if the connectors on my truck match up with the heated mirror connectors. Guess I'll order them and find out.

I looked into this for my 98 XLT and if you look at the plugs, the factory mirror has 5 pins in the plug and so does the other half of the plug in the door.

The heated mirrors have 7 or 8 pins in the plug so unless you have 7 or 8 wires or pins in the door plug it wont work.

Thanks for the info  I'll take a look at the plugs this weekend and I'll try to post back here. Hopefully they match up in my 2000.

I had to replace a mirror recently on my '99 Mounty. It was only a couple of bucks more for the heated mirror so I thought I'd take the chance that the wiring was there, after all the Mounty is an upgraded Exploder? The plugs are the same but the contacts aren't there. You'll have to add a ground (easy enough to find in the door panel) and you'll have to run a wire from the Defroster relay to each door.

I haven't done it yet because of the weather and I can't find the contacts to insert into the plug. Maybe you can find a plug from a junkyard and just splice in the wires?

Even though you would think this would be a popular upgrade to our vehicles, I've searched and searched and no one has ever done a write up on how to do this . . .

Good luck,
Dan

If you guys need help with selection mirrors just reply back with the year and model of you truck, also all of the features that your mirrors currently have and what type of mirrors you're looking for and I can help you out.

From the looks of that harness the female plug on the vehicle may be able to be repinned. They sell the pins at napa. A bit tricky but doable, I've added heated mirrors to a Grand Marquis. Wish I kept the part number but if there is interest I could probably find it.

Hello, I'm trying to order power mirrors with puddle lights from your site but they show up as out of stock. So I was wondering if the heated power mirrors with puddle lights would work instead. My truck is a 2000 XLT.
