Heated seats?

I have a pair of 1999 Explorer (special edition i think) tan leather seats in my ranger. Thing is, underneath there are the wires for the seat power, and more wires for ...something. I noticed there is a big blue thing underneath both of them, could this be a heater? If it is, do I just unscrew it out?

PS: Im stationed in San Diego, my truck is in Atlanta....I cant just "look"

That's probably the thing that fills with air to firm up your seat.

OK...do i really need it? Its not plugged in right now and hasnt been for about 6 months.

Not really, its just a small extra to give the small of your back some extra support. Nice but not necessary
