Heater always blowing hot

Hello. I have a 1997 Explorer. The heater just started only blowing hot air regardless whether the control is set to defog, heater, vent or A/C. I can't get cool air at all unless I switch the control to max A/C. Are my heater controls broken?

Sounds like you have a borken Blend Door. The problem you are having is exactly what other poeple have mentioned. The reason the cold works on Max AC is Max AC uses different ducts than regular AC. Do a search for Blend Door and you will get the picture or pictures, and instructions on how to remedy it. Looks like the easiest is to cut the bottom of the blend door box out, but I will let you decide for yourself.
