Hi, I drive a 1997 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer and my heat decided to quit putting out hot air. The heat has always worked, even though it always put out the hottest air temp (90 degrees according to the thermometer), but the other night it began blowing cold air and I can’t figure out the problem. Can someone please help?!

Is that a new thermostat?? If not your thermostat is probally gone.

Here is a link to what it might be. For your sake I hope it's not the blend door.

Here are some other ideas.

1. Thermostat: If the trucks temp gauge doesn't rise to midway after warming up this is your problem
2. Heater Control Valve: I don't know yet what a good test would be for this.
3. Air in the system. Needs to be burped. While cool take the radiator cap off. Start the engine and put the heat to full hot and the blower on max. Let it warm up for 15-20 minutes and shut off. Top off the coolant and the problem is fixed.
4. And finally the blend door which is discussed in the thread. Thanks too jjue.

I'm having the same problem. However kicked in after about 20 minutes. As long as I don't shut the heat off all winter I think it will work. Let me know what you find out.
