Hello everyone from the soggy Pacific Northwest!

I'll get straight to the point. I have a '99 Ford Ranger 3.0 stock, except the CAI. The truck just turned 100K and I'd like to think I've taken pretty good care of her. I change the lubricants regularily and change the shocks, tires, plugs and plug wires. It's been a great truck and I'd like to keep it for a while. But tonight on the way home, my check engine light came on. It's not overheating, the lights aren't dimming (alternator) and I'm not low on oil.

I did notice that just before the light came on, it seemed to hesitate just a little bit before the power kicked in while going up a hill. Less than 5 minutes later the light came on. I read on some other engine forums that it might be my O2 (I haven't changed it) sensor but I'm not going to just start throwing parts at it. Since I've read some intelligent posts on here I thought I might ask you guys what you think?

Thanks in advance,
Dean

welcome to the site !

Get it checked to see what the code is for the check engine light. Autozone does it for free.

Good Luck

dpfe, run to a ford dealer and ask for a 9j460, or you can take it out and dry it. the piece you are looking for has a harness on top and 2 small rubber hoses, one goes to the egr. the dpfe is usually mounted on the firewall or plenum(upper intake manifold)

Get the code(s) read before going after the DPFE. That's a common CEL problem but there are MANY other possibilities.

Turns out it was the EGR Pressure Sensor. I replaced it and drove around for a while to let the computer reset itself.

Oh, a side note. DO NOT go to Goodyear to have your codes read. It's took them all but 5 minutes to setup, 10 minutes tops to tell me what was wrong and they billed me book time at 1 hr. $90 for 15 minutes work. I won't be goin gthere ever again.

Thanks Guys.
