I couldn`t imagine there could be a whole world of Explorer fans out there. I have a 1998 XLT, which, has not given me many problems, except for age; until now that the driver`s window went down, but won`t come up, even though the rest of the windows work. A fuse?... untracked? the wire that pulls it up? Please tell me.:(:exp:

Welcome Explofan... yep a whole bunch of Ex fans here. The windows are all on a common fuse so it wouldn't be that. A switch possible. A motor possible. The best way to find out if it is a switch is open the door panel, graba test meter and find out if when you actuate the switch if you are getting 12v... easy enough because the motor only has 2 leads going into it.

A lot of problems are actually corrected just in the process of unplugging and reseating connectors.

If you aren't good with that you can always go to a Junk Yard and pull a master switch and motor from another Ex of the same gen explorer.

JoeDirt, a contributor here, had a really great way to check power window motors and power seats for operation in the junk yard... and this will work if you are in a pinch and need to raise a stuck window due to a faulty switch. Just take a cordless drill 12v batt pack and jump the wires to the motor.

Good luck -

welcome
