Ford Explorer XLT 99
Hello,

Excuse my language because I was born in the other side of Atlantic ;-)
I'll try to do my best ;-)

So I've just bought a 99 Ford Explorer. It's my first "real" American car.
It's a 4-doors XLT Model with the V6 4.0 SOHC. We didn't have many models in France, for example, it was impossible to have the 5.0L or the Eddie Bauer version.

So mine has 220.000 Kms, more or less 137.000 miles
And the LPG is installed with a specific 80L fuel tank.
So it costs only 29$ to fill my tank, because in France, it will cost more than 154$ to fill it with gasoline.

I'm very satisfied of my truck ! I was used to drive BMW & Audi but it was always to "small" for me.

I'm looking for a forum to share experiences & get some precious informations.
As you can imagine, in France, we do not have the distribution network of Ford USA and very few specialists in those vehicles.

I'll see to post a picture of it as soon as I could host it.

See you soon.

@Rick

Ditto that! I'm wondering what kind of "rigging" is added or used to run EFI on LPG (Liquified Propane Gas?)? Old fork lifts here mainly run the propane to a "carburetor" in still liquid form, not vapor. Thinking the vapor pressure in-tank is too high at typical ambient temperatures, 200 psi or even more. So, keep it liquid, regulate pressure down to whatever level is appropriate for typical injectors. Different injectors? At least the LPG is it's own fuel pump!

Bewildered. imp

There are probably at least a couple threads in here discussing propane conversions. If I recall most of the converted rigs were in the UK.

Thanks for you answers,

The gallon of gas cost 6,46$ here, instead of 1,24$ for the LPG. Quite a big difference.

For the LPG conversion, I just know that it's still liquid form and the system has its own fuel pump/filter. There's some additional liquid to lubricate valves. It's called "FlashLube".
In France, like in UK, most of American trucks/cars are converted in LPG.

I paid $1.98 a gallon for gasoline (petrol) in the south east U.S. last night. Last week it was $1.88.
:burnout:

It hasn't been that low where I live for many years. Maybe you have a lower tax rate on it? I know that NJ is less than NY, and they have full service stations. We pay more, and have to pump our own gas.

Alabama's gasoline comes from the Colonial Pipeline. Alabama Gas tax is 20.91 cents per gallon and the additional Federal tax is 18.4 cents per gallon. Alabama has the 6th lowest price per gallon in the U.S.

@allmyEXes
Which state is cheapest? I'd offer a guess of Texas. West-Central Arizona today 2.29.
