I thought that it was high time that I introduced myself to the members of this forum.
I bought my first Explorer (a '99 North Face) almost 3 years ago to tow my hobby cars, Jensens.
Soon enough, the engine developed a rattle, culminating in the LH chain making a hole in the cam cover! Ford were very little help, so I decided to have a go myself, being experienced in Jensen V8 engine rebuilding.
As I am sure that many of you know, parts and technical info on these engines is not good, but I persevered, persuading Ford to come up with the parts, and some engineering shops to make up the special tools which I needed.
The Explorer sat on my drive for 3 months I have forgotten just how many trips I made to Ford or just how much money I spent.
When it was all back together, the engine started first turn of the key and ran really smoothly and quietly. What a nice engine! On the first drive, I passed Ford, who were offering free valeting, so she got a proper wash too!
Since fixing that engine, I have fixed many more, though my adverts on eBay, and gained a good in-depth knowledge of the workings of these cars.
I'm here to help and share, because I have, through association, learned just what a great car the Explorer is.
Regards
Duncan
