Just wanted say hello to what looks like a great site. Picked up a1993 4x2 Sport last night, 87K miles, really clean, new Wranglers for $3900.

After cruising the archives, it looks like I've got some work to do.

1. Fix the rusted bolt rear window latch!!
2. Clean the MAF:D
3. Change the T-STAT (test the new one to see if it works);)
4. Crawl on the underside to see if that D*&^ rattle is the CAT shields. (my 91 ranger had the same problem)

Is there a "buying used X checklist" anywhere? I know it's a little late, but a good going over would be a smart move I think. (I looked at most of the basics before purchase)

Hey Welcome to the site. I would check all your fluids (trans and oil) and do a search around here for posts about general maintenance and how to do it, there should be several.

Welcome to the site!

You will find enough information pertaining to almost anything here (especially Explorers) to keep you busy/entertained for months!

I knew just about nothing when I found this sire, now my friends call me with questoins, then I normally just use the search and try to find something that helps.

Well if I knew what I know now about Explorers when I got mine I would have checked the following:

All Fluids:
Tranny Nice and Pink no odor
Engine Oil
Differential Fluid
X-Case Fluid (Should be transmission fluid)
Brakes and Calipers, etc...
Exhaust
Air Filter
Power Steering
Master Cylinder

Oh man the list will just go on and on.

My 89 Ranger also had this problem.

Solution: Get one (or two) of the largest stainless steel hose clamps that you can find and wrap around the heat shield and snug it up.:)

I thought I was pretty clever to think of this, then I saw it in a Ford TSB a couple of years after.

Hey, welcome to the site.
There is SO MUCH to learn here,
and to teach !!!
It is a great palce for ANY Explorer owner.
