2007 Explorer XLT
I've read the other posts and watched a couple of videos on youtube about how to change the fuel filter on my 2007 Explorer. Regarding the disconnect clips, I've got the white one "off". No matter how hard I try, I cannot get the fuel line off on the side with the white clip. The old filter is pretty corroded - would that be the likely reason that I'm having such trouble? I'm laying in my driveway and can only get one hand up there so there's not much wiggle room.

One the other end, I have the lever flipped up on the red clip but am not sure what else needs to be done to release that end. I can squeeze the opposite side of the clip and have tried to push it back (like the white one), but I can't tell how far it's supposed to go. Also, am i supposed to do anything else with the clip lever that's flipped up??

I really need to get my vehicle running again so any help is greatly appreciated!

The red one, you open the clip, and then it needs to be pushed out a little.

@Explorer_PL can you elaborate a little more -- what do you mean it needs to be pushed out a little? Are you referring to the lever itself or the other side of the clip?

From what I recall, did it just last month:
Once you "open" the red clip, it's basically a U shape with the flap open. It needs to slide so the bottom of the U moves away from the fuel line. You can try with a small stubby flat screwdriver to put it under the bottom of the U and pry it away VERY GENTLY. Watch for the flap, it can break off easily.

Or better one, check at 1.51 min

@Explorer_PL thanks so much for the videos -- very helpful! Especially the second one.
Much appreciated :-)

Is this setup the same for the 2009 V8? The early 4.0L had a 3 outlet filter. This has no flow back and much simpler.

All I can say that my both trucks on the left use same setup and probably same filter.
