2002 Explorer XLT 4.0 4X4
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 2002 explorer 4.0 4x4. I have shifting problems meaning:
1. Wont go into drive.
2. Wont go into reverse.
3. I can drive it if I start in 1st - 3rd. When i get to 40-45, I can shift into drive as long as the o/d is off. Then after i get to around 60-65 or so I can turn the o/d back on and it will drive fine.

Soooo,
I have replaced my solenoid block. Little improvement.
I have resleeved the case for both intermediate and o/d servos. No improvement.

Oh yeah. This weekend i rebuilt the transmission. New clutches, seals, all three bands, and even installed a shift kit with new pressure relief valve. Made it worse. HELP PLEASE! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Do i need to have it flashed?

Sounds like you do just need a complete rebuild. Don't overlook your valve body too during the rebuild.

Hope you find your problem.

Thanks for the reply mike! I have rebuilt the tranny, replaced all seals, all three bands all clutches, pressure valve, solenoid block, I even put in a new shift kit and resleeved the case for the servos. I am still having trouble with it...... When i start the engine then shift into drive or reverse it gives the little jerk as if its in gear, but when i give it gas it acts as if its not completely engaged. Any ideas? Thanks.:(
