Help!!! I have a 1992 Explorer 4.0 XLT 5spd with push button 4x4 on the dash. When i engage the normal 4wd it works perfect but when i hit the 4X4 low Button (while stoped in N) it will not only not engage in 4X4 low and will some times kick me out of 4x4 all together! Does any one have any thoughts?

ew... that is wierd... i thought it would be another "newbie" not knowing about stopped in 4x4 and nuetral..... wow sorry i couldnt help out... but i too want to know what your problem is

i would like to know too. i also have a 92 4X4 5 speed, and the 4lo wont work. regular 4X4 works fine though.

I always come to a complete stop, and fully engage the clutch and then it goes into low range.
If it still doesn't work then you may have a defective Speed Sensor, the sensor is located at the tail end of the transfer case.
If this doesn't fix it then you may have to work on your Transfer case shift motor. Follow this link for information about checking your shift motor. Dead Link Removed

Same problem as AZdrtRider

I am having the same problem as azdrtrider. I have a automatic though. My 1991 xlt 4x4 has no problem with the high range but when trying the low range (while stopped in N) it does not engage. Someone out there with the same problem? Please help!
Thank you, Marilyn
