I was out on the trails tonight and hit a big water hole probably about 2-3ft deep, enough to cover about an inch or two of the doors. I hit it at about 25mph and about half way thru the thing died on me and wouldn't start. The exhaust was underwater so I figured that was the problem... I called up my buddy and he back up to me with his J**P and pulled me out no problem. We sat there for awhile and the thing wouldn't start at all. I tried starting it for awhile then let it sit and dry but still nothing. He towed me home and we checked out the battery with a voltmeter and it read 12.5volts, still good right? I tried starting it again here and now all it does is just click. We looked around and now it seems to be leaking a red fluid, possibly power steering. I have no clue what is wrong with the thing. I'm new here and like this place a lot, very informative. I hope someone has a clue to what my problem is... HELP!!!!!!!

Most likely you sucked some water into the intake. First thing you need to do is pull all the spark plugs out. Turn over the engine and let all the water out. It will shoot out in cool sprays. After the only thing coming out id fuel. Put the plug back in after you spray a little carb cleaner in there. It is a good thing that you couldn't turn it over. You see water doesn't compress like air and if you had tried it most likeley would have blown your engine.

The intake is in the engine compartment way down near the bottom. It will suck water easy. This is another reason to drill the airbox. It will lessen the chance of you doing the Hydro-lok thing again.

i tried pulling the plugs and starting it but all I got was one turn and the thing stopped turning, like no power or something. Then i tried it again and it just clicked, this really sucks.

could it be the battery?

ok, it starts now but the power steering isn't working, it's really jerky and you can't even drive over 25mph b/c it jerks so bad

I would check your power stering fluid if you have not already. Posibly check for broken hoses on the power steering. Did you hit any bumps or pot holes that may have jared it out of alinement? Also make sure all your plug wires are secure. I got water on my distributor and the wires were well soaked with mud. no spark, it took awhile for it to dry. The second time I did it I was able to dry it off with a towel. Hope this helps.

You may have gotten air in your system. Try turning the wheel lock to lock 5-10 times to bleed the air out (with the motor running). I had the same problem with my Ranger after running out of gas. This fix was suggested by my dealer and it worked great!
