This is what happens when you have a couple buddies over helping you pull the transmission and no organization for hardware taken out.

I am installing my new transmission now, and according to my chilton`s manual, it says the two longer bolts go in the bellhousing dowel holes.

Here`s what i have:

Now the 4 on the right I figured out are for the transfer case. This leaves me with 4 bolts the same size, and two short ones. No 2 longer bolts like the manual says.

I'm not even sure if the 2 short ones are used for the bellhousing. My alldata doesn't say which ones go where, and neither does my ATSG.

Anyone know? Maybe those 6 are used and I still have to look for two longer ones for the dowel holes.

Makes sense. There's 8 holes and I have 6 bolts. I will go out and look for those bolts.

Yup found them, one was tucked under cardboard and carpet I laid out under the truck, the other one was in plain sight, but I didn't expect them to be that long!

Anyways transmission is bolted in! Now to tie up the loose ends...might have a running truck before the end of the week! I hope so, since we're expecting some snow here.

Looking for Bellhousing bolts

Does anyone know where I can buy these bolts? I bought an 88 Turbo Coupe with the A4LD tranny and it was missing one or two bolts. I got some from the local hardware store and they are very close. However, when I compare with the ones I have, the (original)threads seem to be slightly more angled and closer together. Since at least one of the holes (one missing location) has screwed up threads already, I don't want to make the same mistake.

The threads are metric so don't put std or USA thread bolts in them. Local salvage yard or local ford dealer is your best bet. You can get metric bolts at a hardware or tractor supply but you have to get the right size, they come in coarse and fine thread same as USA bolts do. Also they are not the softest grade.
