Ok, Im new here and am going to try to simplfy this the best I can.
I went to turn on the AC and the clutch would engage then make a purging sound then the compressor would purge coolant from a valve located in the rear of compressor. This repeated until all coolant was blown out of system and now blows warm air though vents. Any ideas?

Truck is 1998 Ford Explorer 5.0.

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you might need a new compressor if yours is purging out of the back. One of the seals might have went. Best bet is to bring it to someone professional to see if there is any other leaks other than the compressor.

That valve is a blow off valve. While it is possible to have the little blow off valve go bad, i doubt that is the problem. something is causing a serious high pressure problem. Probably, is something inside the compressor failed.

Ok thanks guys. I thought that the valve was some sort of pressure valve but wasnt sure. I was hoping to avoid the new AC route but after 250,000 miles you cant expect it all to last forever.

When I get the new compressor, what other parts do I need to change out with it?
