Ok, heres the story, Right after i got my X i put a kenwood cd player in it. I just slpiced it into the wireing harness using a kit. Now i have gotten around to the amp bypass and the nightmare has begun. I went to a local audio place and they gave me one for a ford and said it would work. After working for atleast 2 hours to get the massive trim panel in the back out i found out that it was the wrong set of wires.

Today my dad went back to the place to see if they had another one, guess wat, NO. They said you have to slpice it into the the factory harness. What a nightmare in itself! no colors on the wires matched! so i finally found some diagrams to wire it up right. once that was done and i got them all connected right, i twisted the wires, just for a test run. I reconnected the batter and such and turned the HU on and no sound......turn up the volume. slight sound at full volume with alot of static.

I have no idea y it doesn't work! Has anyone had this same problem or have any ideas why it is this way? Thanks for your time! TODD :(

if your looking to by pass the factory amp
then i think u will find the part you need from circuit city or from cutchfield its only llike 10 bucks

the amp in the explorer is wierd so i guess it takes a specific harness to do it....

good luck

I did get the bypass but i guess i have a "rare" connector on one side? i dunno? Went to the audio place today and they said i have to run new speaker wire back to the bypass harness because the current wires going back there can't carry the signal. So thatz my project for tonite. Thank god i didn't do anything to my head unit. Finally got the money for the ThunderForm and i didn't wanna have to by a new HU.

Thanks for the help though!

Wired and ready to go!

Ok, just got done running new speaker wire from the HU back to the OE amp location. Tied the NEW wires in there and now it works! And you can hear it!

My guess is that the wires running from the HU back to the amp are very light duty ones and that they didn't need heavy duty ones since its pre-amp.

Running the wires was really easy since the interior was all torn apart to begin with. If anyone has a questions about this I would be happy to answer them!
