I have had a sporadic issue with a few components that may be related on my 04 Explorer v6.
At first I had an issue with a very substantial thunk that would come from the front axle. This would happen when driving slowly and turning the wheel all the way to the right, then all the way to the left it would then clunk. I did the test for bearings, ford confirmed it. So I put new aftermarket hub assemblies on the fron (L+R). Not sure if it solved the problem since a week later the same issue came back...
This ties in to my latest issue where I am experiencing a slipping while accelerating. It doesn't happen all the time. But is usually following a semi-sharp turn (left turn one way street), the wheel is not cranked all the way, maybe 50%.
Ford has taken a quick look at it and have identified lower ball joints, stabilizer bar (which was fixed 6 months ago).
I don't know much about ball joints, would they cause these symptoms even while driving straight?
